I bought a Dell Dimension 5000 in January 2005 (yes, I know it’s a desktop – please bear with me) and in March 2005 Dell contacted me to sell me the ‘3 years next business day on site support service’, which I accepted and paid for. At the time, I am sure the sales person said that the three years of cover extended to other dell products, should I decide in the future to purchase something else from Dell (e.g. a notebook ).

Well I have just purchased a dell notebook – the Inspiron 1300 and today I received a phone call from Dell asking me if I was interested in upgrading the basic ’90 day collect and return’ to the ‘3 years next business day on site support’. When I explained that I still had some cover left existing plan, they said that the cover didn’t cover additional products from Dell.

Is this corect? I would appreciate anybody's view on this.

I seriously doubt the salesman that said the three year protection plan would extend to other products knew what the heck he was talking about. I think you'd have to purchase a separate warranty for each product.

I am not 100 % sure, hopefully someone else can corroborate/disprove my statement.

Thanks Vespoli. I think you are probably right - just wanted to make sure.
