Hey Everyone,
I've been perusing this forum for quite a couple months now doing research for my first laptop purchase (and saving up money). Like many other people, I'm heading back to school in september and decided I needed a laptop.
I finalized on the Dell Vostro 1400. Here's my build from Dell Canada's website:
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB), English
Genuine Windows Vista Business, English
14.1 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCD Display with TrueLife (1440x900)
No Camera
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 Dimm -- Free Upgrade from 1GB!
120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability, w/o Roxio Creator
Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card
Integrated High Definition Audio
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Total: $1069 CAD
+tax $1213.66 CAD
Is this a good deal?
For other canadian buyers: To get the extra 1 GB of ram for free I called the 1-800 number and discussed with the sales person that the US Dell site was giving away free ram, and thus so should the Canadian site. They will try to use the exchange rate as the reason for price difference, but then explain to them that its only 8% maximum difference, and with an identical build the US site Vostro is still much cheaper. Im not sure how much else I could have got, but was pretty content just getting the ram.
On a side note, im kinda pissed, I just checked the email they sent me after I had paid, and on looking at the part list, the guy missed a bunch of parts that I had ordered...grrr (I have to wait till business hour to deal with this now)
Dell Canada: 1400 Vostro, is this a good build?.. + tip for Canadians, Free Ram upgrade!
