So after 2 weeks of fighting I came to the conclusion that returning my new inspiron 9400 to dell was the best option. I don't know if some people had problem with dell canada support but with me they made no effort to get me satisfied with my notebook. Here the story.
On october 9 i place an order at the home store in dell.ca for a top of the line inspiron 9400 with nvidia 7900 GS graphic and 2 gig of memory. the system was shipped fast and I received it on oct 19. So far so good. After using the laptop in a few game I noticed graphic problem and at first i thought it was related to buggy driver i was using with vista but at some point the system just died. Called tech support and the tech offered me to send a box to my house free and send my new laptop for repair. Apparently he forgot to tell me that i could also just return the laptop for exchange... I was feeling like i was the new owner of a full priced refurbish at that point. Waited 5 days without any kind of update and finally received my system back. From there the first thing that strike me is that it seem like some over repair used a dirty towel to clean my lcd because it was all full of grease or something. I clean it up and start the system. Linux boot and for some reason the GUI doesn't load... I thought that maybe the hardware change screwed something and i try to reinstall the driver again... No go, i get and error message that no NVIDIA hardware was found. From there i totally panic and go back to the BIOS to find out that my system was downgraded from a 7900 GS to a lame ATI X1400... Thats bad.. in Fact its 250$ upgrade bad. I don't know if Dell thought id be too stupid to notice or something and i was seriously angry at that point. Called them back and i was told that it was impossible that such a big error happend and they wanted to check for them self with remote desktop. I installed windows again, installed the remote and the tech on the phone checked that I really had what I said and at that point inform me that I could get a new system sent to me and return this one when I get the new one. It was out of question for them to give me any kind of credit or anything. I asked for a Vista upgrade and failed. Nothing. They also didn't want to refund the graphic card I paid for and didn't get right now and even asked me to pay shipping if i return it for a full refund.
While all this happened I also ordered windows media center CD for reinstall and i was sent home edition CD. Called dell again to try to get the media center cd again and AGAIN they sent me home edition ENG but also Home edition french and XP pro French?!?!
So after all this I finally got them to refund everything at no charge for the return. The computer is leaving tomorrow and I should expect a refund in 10 days at best I was told. I bet they gonna tell me they wont refund because the graphic card is not the same. Its amazing how dell would rather have me buy my laptop from someone over giving me a store credit or something.
