    Hi all,

Today I noticed that my power adapter is not working anymore (after only 2 weeks of use  ) so I called Dell and asked for a new one. They were kind to send me a new one immediately. When I checked the web page a few minutes ago it showed as shipped. So I was wondering, do they ship these parts from US as they do with the laptop, or do they have some kind of warehouse in Canada (hopefully close to Toronto)?

i believe their office is in North York, ON (Canada). now whether they have also an assembly plant or warehouse there is another story. most probable scenario is if they have a canadian warehouse and the part is on-stock in that warehouse then the part is shipped locally. but if it is out of stock, or on special order, then they will have to get it from their warehouse in the US. the principle or model being followed is like that of amazon.com/amazon.ca; tigerdirect.com/tigerdirect.ca. the US warehouse could not ship it direct to you otherwise you would have to pay for importation tax and brokerage fee. rather, the importation is paid for by dell canada and the most probable route it takes at least paper trail wise is dell-usa office/warehouse to dell-canada office. just my theory.

I've ordered quite a few things from Dell recently, and have noticed that computers are built in Malaysia, shipped to the US, then shipped again to Canada (usually from Texas/Tennessee). Peripherals and what not, usually ship from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), and have gotten things from either the Mississauga or Oakville warehouse. They are unbelievably quick when shipped from the GTA (I live in Barrie). There are no assembly plants in Canada, only warehouses.

You have to wait until the Texas Rangers play the Blue Jays. They stick the parts on the team plane.

Checking the order status on my i6400 from Dell Canada:

Order Date: Friday April 28, 2006
Production Date: Friday April 28, 2006
Ship Date: Monday May 1, 2006

Estimated Delivery Date: Monday May 15, 2006

I called up Dell, they said the notebook is being shipped from Austin TX, then it goes up to Calgary, then finally over to me on the west coast.

So it seems that peripherals and such are on hand here in Canada, but the systems are shipped into the country.

    Shipped: April 30
    Estimated delivery date: May 12

The box is sitting in some purolator truck in the US right now and will cross the border tonight. Hope that it won't take a full week for it to get to Vancouver...
    The waiting is killing me.
