My 1405 was ordered on 05/22. It was built on 05/23 and moved into the "Boxing Phase" where it still remains. My quoted Delivery Date for next day is 06/05. What is the deal with the "Boxing" ? The dell support forums state Boxing takes 3 days as the Notebooks are shipped from Malaysia ... but what the he!! ... 6 days ?
Dell usually way under promises ... and I have never waited this long after a system was built to receive it.
Any one else encounter this ?
-
That doesn't sound right; l ordered mine on 5/28 and it has been already shipped and will be at my house tomorrow.
-
wtf. my e1505 went into production on monday. boxing on tuesday and its still in boxing. i was hoping it would be here by tomorow but i guess not?
-
I know! I talked to someone in CS and they only re-itterated that the most recent status is available on line and blah blah blah.
I'm rather pissed. -
I ordered an Inspiron 9400 from Dell Canada last Saturday (May 27th).
Last Tuesday, I called to know if my order was right and the guy refered me to a guy from India which I could barely hear. He only verified my order, and he said he was gonna send that to production.
Then I verify on the dell site, and it still says my order is being processed. Then I decide to call them back today like 1 hour ago, and the guy tells me that my order will be delayed till the 9th because they have a problem with the dvd drives...
That does not make sense. Why would they have problems with the dvd drives ? I just checked now and it has been updated. It says it had been in production the 29th...
I dunno what to think about that. The guy said to me they will only begin to build my system the 9th so I will not have it at least before another week. Sigh. -
I bought a e1505 on the 29 and it was in boxing the last 2 days until only a few minutes ago it has been moved to shipping but, the thing is once it is in shipping It could still a while until it reaches the ups truck or whoever my est time for delv is tues the 6th thru thursday the 8th
-
it varys
what i can say now, the tracking is more than likely a script of the stages. Your computer was built super fast, and now its making its time up in boxing.
You will have it next week, i can promise you that -
if you're delivery date is 6/5, then there's no reason to be "pissed" until 6/6
-
This dosn't sound good! A big company like Dell shouldn't get this problems! Not delay for so long time. I was hoping to get my e1505 next friday, but as it seems I can look in the stars for that...
-
exactly drumfu
they also over estimate, in case things like this happen. Im sure your going to have it next tuesday at the latest -
Nope, I was right, they estimate it will take 20 days, from that I posted my order... What's up with that, they told me 7-10 days when I orderd it.
-
huh? refrain that please
-
Date when I put the order: 2006-05-31
Day when I payed the order: 2006-06-01
Day the esimate that the order will arrive: 2006-06-21
What's up with that? 20 days when they tell me 7-10? -
ugh
they over estimate it....your going to have it next week -
-
Do we have to have the semi cursing?
-
lol. i was hoping to have mine tomorrow. what do u guys think? today is the third day in boxing.
-
doubt it lilfazzi
you should have it by next tuesday -
Guys please watch the language.
Normally Dell does over estimate by 2 weeks, and yes it does take around 3 business for boxing. Then an additional 24 hours to go from Dell to your regional shipper (UPS/DHL/FedEX).
With all of the new laptops out, there is going to be a back order if you ordered a new laptop. Dell is notorious for running out of parts, and it takes time to get it. -
Yep
something else that has always been the case with me, i pick 3-5 day shipping, and get it the second 2nd day. It might be my location, so i dont know.
But dont worry, if thats your estimate, go with it. Your going to enjoy your laptop -
Well, as my original post stated. It is nearing close of the 6th Business Day now and still in "Boxing" I don't see this as being typical 3-4 Days ... the only reason why I asked if anyone else had seen "Boxing" for this long.

My Inspiron e1705 was in boxing from May 25th to May 30th, or 5 days.
Although whats even worse is how UPS is handling the package. First, they shipped it from Nashville to Salt Lake City, UT. Then today they took it right past Greeley (where I live) and into Commerce City in Denver! I'm hoping tomorrow they will bring it back to Greeley and attempt a delivery. I hope they don't wait until the last day scheduled to deliver until they try (this has happened before with me on Ground service packages, although it was car parts...)
Kind of disappointing since the last order I made from Dell (a 9300) I ordered on an early monday morning and was delivered friday morning, only 4 days later. -
If you are still in boxing, called Dell. It is not normal for it to be in boxing for 6 days. The only reason I can think of is that Dell is severally back logged with everything.
There have been users that have complained that Dell will have the package held until your shipment date is near. I believe USAF had this problem or something similar to it. -
So I talked to a representative.
They would not give me any further information other than that my expected deilvery date was not until Monday 06/05 with Next Day Shipping.
I asked as to why it has been in the "boxing" stage for so long, and from what I have seen that this is pretty atypical.
The representative repeated the same thing and would not actually answer my question.
Hmmm .........
So either Dell is not-so-much under promising on their ship dates right now ... or something is up with my order and won't know until I find that it doesn't ship on time.

I can't believe they are taking 6 days. It has been maximum of 3 business days for the last 1 1/2 years. Something just seems weird. At least June 5 isn't far around the corner.
Sorry that you are having all these problems J. -
YES. the little bastard is in transit to local carrier NOW. so i should recive it monday )))))))))
-
I've been seeing weirdness myself... I placed my order on the 24th, and it was in "pre-production" until last night (June 1st). But, when they updated it last night, they said it's been in production since the 30th... whaa? The ship date wasn't even showing until last night, and it is giving me the 12th (which is fine). As long as I don't receive it later than the 15th, I'm good (leaving the country on the 18th)
Ravlen -
Business day 7 comes to a close and still in Boxing ...
-
My estimated delivery date was set to 3 weeks after I placed my order...
 -
Dont worry, you will have it more than likely within the next week-week and 1/2
-
I'm having a similar problem with my order status. I ordered my XPS m1710 on May 27th, recieved the confirmation email the same day telling me it would arrive on June 9th. On the order status page, my laptop was suppose to enter production on May 29th and ship on June 6. They probably had an update problem or whatever, everytime I checked (after May 29th), it said that my XPS entered production the same date I was checking but one hour before, but it kept changing. Like if I checked on May 31 at 11 AM, the page would say that my laptop entered production state on May 31 at 10 AM.... I e-mailed Dell and they "took" care of it. After the email, I re-checked my order status which now said that my XPS went into production on May 29. Thing is, 2 days later, when I checked again, the production date changed to May 30 and now it is said to ship on June 7... I guess everything just isn't right on the Canadian site .. Anyway.. it's June 3 today, and my lappy is still in production (from what it says ) .. I just can't wait to see that UPS truck park in front of my house...
-
Woah, so I checked the status this morning, and it said it was shipped on Saturday (or at least sent to the carrier). So much for the 3 week estimate!
-
haargerman, when did you place your order? I just ordered a E1405 yesterday and need it by the 15th. By everyones past experiances, it will come by the 15th, correct?
-
yes, you should get it a week before that even
-
-
That's essentially the same thing that happened to me. Order placed at Dell Canada on the 24th, said in pre-production for 8 days straight... Every refresh would change the estimated production date to an hour before I refreshed. I e-mailed and complained and the reply I got was:
---------------
Hi,
Sir the issue has been escalated to the highest level we are currently working
on the problem .And I am sorry for any inconvenience caused to you and we will
ship the laptop to you as soon as possible .
Thank you for your patience and once again my apologies!!
---------------
A day or two later it showed in production, and the last 4-5 days it has been sitting in production phase. Then today, I go to check the status of the order in the hopes that it has made it out of production, and what do I get?
---------------
Delivery date of your product might have been changed.
This could have been prompted by the following circumstances:
* Mismatch between billing and credit card information.
* A system issue that interrupted the order entry flow
If the above occurred as a result of mismatched billing information, you will be contacted directly by one of our representatives within the next 2-3 business days.
If this does not happen, feel free to contact us at [email protected] or at 1(800)847-4096

WTF? I ordered this laptop on the 24th of may because I'm literally *leaving the country* on the 18th of june. I've waited over 2 weeks now for them to do *something*, and now this? This is getting out of hand! I'm calling them now, but not getting my hopes up. I seriously doubt it's a billing information mismatch, considering they've already verified it.
Edit: Ahh, of course! Wait until the offices are closed for the weekend, THEN screw with the order. Now I gotta wait till monday, and 2 more days delay? Scrumtrelescent.
2nd Edit: Oh, one more thing. NickS: PLEASE stop we'll receive our orders a week ahead of time, or even ON time. You have NO way of knowing that this is going to be the case.
Ravlen -
wow, I get the exact same message...
For me I am sure it was not the billing since my credit card authorized the payment. When I talk to a rep, last thursday, he said to me they had problems with the dvd drives on the Inspiron 9400...
Mine was Core Duo 2ghz
WXGA+
100GB hard drive 5400
X1400 ATI
1GB 533 Mhz
DVD burner
Intel pro wireless
80 WHR 9 cell battery
large backpack
The only large difference is the graphic card. -
Well, the video card is the only reason I went with dell, really. If I could go somewhere else and get a built to order laptop with a 7900gs for 2k'ish (canadian), then I likely would. I can't take this stress, I'm moving out of the country so I can't take my desktop with me... Likely I'll have to bring some crappy cheapie laptop with me to Japan and pay through the nose for a better one once I get there
Ravlen -
I gotta say, it's really great that customer service is not open on the weekends. Not even saturday? Pfft *rolleyes*.
In any case, I talked to a regular sales rep and convinced him to look up my order, and he said it has been cancelled completely. He told me to call back on sunday because I need to talk to an "online sales rep" since I placed my order through the website, and they aren't in today. He said that since *I* didn't cancel it, they will reinstate the order for me. I asked him "Doesn't that mean that the whole build time for the latop will restart?". He said "Absolutely not". HA! I wasn't in the mood to lay into some idiot phone rep, so I just left it at that. Looks like I'm gonna have to go with a company other than dell :/ (If they reorder, there's no way I'm gonna get my laptop by the 15th.
Ravlen -
what is an online sales rep ?
Sigh yeah no customer service on Saturday, and the other day the customer service refered me to an Indian rep that I could barely understand ... sigh.
I like dell prices, I like dell products. But I gotta say that their customer service is well ... -
for me it is 2 weeks about..
Order Processing: Sunday, May 21, 2006
Pre-production: Sunday, May 21, 2006
In Production: June 1, 2006
Shipping Prep: Monday, June 05, 2006
Ship Date: Monday, June 05, 2006
However, I just got email saying
We're pleased to inform you that your
order was shipped on 06/02/2006!
My dv8000t took 11 days to get to me. So I say with online customized orders, avg days is 14.
This is e1705 -
-
i made order on 6/2... estimated ship date is on 6/14 with normal ground shipping (3-5 days)
i called them and said i ll be going out of the country on 6/10 and i like to have the laptop with me.. they said they will make it ship the next day (a $133 value ) ) for me, and they will call me when its shipped out of dell ...
super service -

Are dell UK orders typically longer than ones in the US?
I ordered an M1710 yesterday and the estimated delivery date is July 7th
Has anyone else ordered one of these from the UK lately and had a long delivery date? -
Ravlen - That really sucks dude. I hope something smilar does not happen to me. Tomorrow is the quoted ship date for my machine ... and the date two Dell reps promised me the computer would ship by and "not to worry" ... so we shall see if the truth be told.
I'll post back tomorrow and let you know what I find out; please do the same as I am curious as to what they tell you. -
My e1505 It shipped on june first I bought on May 29th.
So my questoin is how is my dell going to be her tomorrow when it shows its still in Nashville not moving since the 1st? And why does it say that I have a Rescheduled Delivery: 06/05/2006 when I was never given an original delivery date? Dell said that est delivery was the 13th-14th but production went fast as did boxing so the date was moved to the 6th-8th. Will they slow down the shipping so it is here the dates they gave me?

How long does dell usually overestimate their shipping dates?
My delivery estimate is between the 14-16 of June. I ordered June 1st (thursday). I know dell shipps on Saturdays, but does a Saturday count as a ship day from Malaysia -> Texas? Could I imagine getting my laptop as early as this Friday/Saturday, or would it more likely be Monday/Tuesday?
Thanks and as you can tell anxious =] -
I think from Malaysia to the U.S. is under the boxing phase. I orderd on the 29th and it is 1 state away as of now. So i could get it monday and the orginial est was the 13th-15th. You should have it by the end of the week
-
Well Well ... what do you know ... I received an order delayed notification in my email this morning. I am talking to a Dell rep as we speak who has me on hold while they talk to "dispatch" to see why the order was delayed.
*This should be good*
Oh ... hmmm ... aparently "dispatch" is having technical difficulties and I will need to call back later.
I am NOT a happy camper !
Well, I got the reps e-mail and I'll attempt to contact her to see if she can get status later today.
I'll keep you all posted
