A while ago on this forum, it was pointed out that Dell were seeking beta testers, and one could register their details online, so I did this.
I had a follow up email from Dell today, saying that a new opportunity was available, and a link was provided to sign up for a chance to test a new notebook.
There was a short questionnaire, asking how many hours you would be able to test, what activities you mainly used you laptop for and also what screen size you preferred.
The time frame for this test was listed as being from the 20th of May to the 30th of June...
So, any ideas what notebook this might be for???
Im hoping a new line of XPS, including a 15 16:10 display model to replace me M1530
-
-
I doubt it will be the XPS its already released.

Maybe it will be a Nehalem Clarksfield powered laptop? And I too am about to sign up for it!
-
link please?? im also interested.
-
I think it might be a replacement for the M1730 though.
I'm not sure of the link to register, it was in a post on these forums though. I'll have a look in my emails.
Edit: Link to the website, I think you need to have registered though... -
who cares, a computer is designed by beta tester consumers who just start to use windows for the very first time in their life.

I signed up for the beta test, after I went through the questionaire what was a "sign up for beta test" option changed to an "Inspiron 1320" option.
So I assume its a test for the above.
It's a pitty though that its such a short test period. -
Yes, I also noticed the Inspiron 1320. I believe the current one is an Inspiron 1318, so I'd guess that this is a minor upgrade. But hey, free laptop! (for a while, anyway). Why not?
-
Just signed up. Hopefully I get chosen. =D

I thought the "will you return the laptop when asked" checkbox was a bit funny though.
Surely if you just kept it after the deadline they'd come after you or something, right? -
-
I signed up as well. I don't mind too much if I don't get chosen, but its definitely a start!

Im regestering right now... this would be awesome as I could do a review for NBR as well
-
I registered for the beta program a month ago or so, and just saw this new beta for the Inspiron 1320. I hope I get picked to test this thing out...a close relative of mine is in the market for a 12 or 13" light notebook, and this may prove to be good for her.
-
Signed up a while back..*fingers crossed*.

It would be nice if we did get to keep them too. Does Dell really need their beta $400 Inspirons back? -

If anything it would probably work in Dells favour. The testers would be more likely to give the systems proper real-world usage if they were going to be hanging on to them for a while. -
-
You can never have too many systems, right? It could take the place (temporarily) of my other computer, the Inspiron 5150 listed below the Latitude. Of course, it'll be heavy/thick and probably quite low specced, but it's only a start. Hopefully, they'll offer much cooler computers in the future. -
hi, maybe 2 month a go i registered to their website. they emailed me and said that there are some opportunities. I dont expect much. But, hey, today they send me an email and said that they already send the notebook (Dell Inspiron 1320) to my address.
so, here is my conclusion
1. you can apply in spite of your residence (i'm in developing country)
2. i also think that you can apply anytime. if you are eligible they will contact you.
Good luck

Congratulations on getting selected.
Also, for those interested, there are three new opportunities, taking applications until 1 July:

I just applied for all 3. -
I applied for all three in reverse order. I found it odd how all of the surveys seemed so similar and vague. I'm not sure how exactly they choose people: random or by the simple choices we answer.
-
I doubt it will be random unless they are truly rubbish at running tests.
Actually, that wouldn't suprise me at all -
Yesterday I rec'd my e-mail (as I'm sure nearly all of you did).
I just went to the site (since lovely Dell didn't provide the link, in the e-mail) ...Anyways, I signed up for all three to hopefully Beta Test!
We shall see.....

sorry...how do you go about getting a username for this?
-
Too late now, they've closed registration. They may re-open it at some point, but probably not for some time.
-
Agreed with Fragile..it prolly won't be opened for a bit of time.
Do a google search every-so-often, or check slickdeals.net..you may find some info there!

Is it US only?
-
I wonder how many Dell owners were chosen?
