Ive been dealing with windows vista on this labtop for awhile and i am tired of vista. I had previously tried putting in a XP disk and tried to reformat and got a BSOD when entering setup. So i decided to by a new harddrive for the computer because the old harddrive was small anyways. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136280
I put the new harddrive in and bios recognized that the harddrive was there. I then put in the xp cd and tried to set up windows again. The same problem happened so I thought it might be the xp CD. I went to windows msdn and i downloaded windows xp professional NO SERVICE PACK(for free) and burnt the image file onto a cd. I then tried installing windows again, and another blue screen of death. My bios is A07 and there is a new bios A08 and i dont know if it will help. Ive been looking around for posts on similar problems and for dell labtops ive seen they have said to get sata drivers. There are none for the dell xps m1210 to my knowledge. If someone could show me where i can find them that would be great. Ive also read people going onto the dell bios and doing something with autodetect. My dell bios has no section about harddrive, its the worst excuse for a bios. I currently can use the old harddrive with vista, if i need to update any drivers but i cant find any drivers that would help in my situation. http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...th.html?cat=59 Do i need to use a newer service pack of XP to work with newer hard drives ive read that service pack 1 supports sata harddrives larger than 137GB? The blue screen comes during windows setup.
Thanks

For 1... you need an SP2 disc or greater.
For 2... probably AHCI drivers. Is the BSOD code 0x00000A7 or 0x000000B7? -
And the error code is ....
0x0000007E -
i can download xp with service pack 3 should i get the highest available?
-
I would, but it's up to you. For some god forsaken reason some people do not like SP3, even though it's basically just a security rollup for SP2, and also improves performance slightly.
-
service pack 3 seems to be working. Thanks for the help Hep!

I am a student in electrical engineering at a university so i just get everything for free. its called msdn.
-
ahhh ok. well that rules out that option
-
Well I am trying to downgrade from vista to xp pro.
I have a original xp pro cd. so no sp1 or 2 is included. I have changed the mode in the bios to ata and disabled some other option in order for it to work (as the bios required me to) and i still continously get bsod and errors when trying to install XP. Now do I need to just hit F6 to install the raid drivers? or do I need to download some drivers and put them on a usb stick and hit f6 when prompted for raid drivers?
I was under the impression that if you changed the option in the bios to ata that you did not need the drivers??
Please help!!!
thanks -
You still will likely have issues using an SP0 disc on any modern computer, more than just AHCI drivers are missing.
I suggest downloading nLite and slipstreaming in service pack 3
Additionally, at this time I would suggest slipstreaming in your AHCI drivers and setting your BIOS back to AHCI/SATA from ATA.
Keeping installation media up to date is an important part of maintaining a computer, just as important as keeping an existing system up to date. -
thank you for you reply.
Ok i would be more than happy to proceed with this option but how do i slipstream sp3 in? (i do have an sp3 cd) also which are the drivers than i need to slipstream in as well?? -
If you download nLite, you'll see how easy it is in slipstream in SP3. It literally has a button "Add Service Packs"
You'll probably need to slipstream in SP2 and then SP3, as SP3 requires SP1 or SP2 before it can be installed. These service packs can be downloaded from Microsoft.
As for drivers - how would I have any idea without knowing what laptop you have? -
thank you for you reply once again.
I have a dell XPS M1330
I thought the sp3 cd contains sp2 as well?? so should i copy both sp2 cd onto hdd and sp3 cd onto hdd then use nlite? -
SP3 requires SP1 or greater to be installed. So you can't install it on an SP0 disc. You will need to first slipstream in SP1 or SP2.
The M1330 uses P965M AHCI drivers.
You can get them here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng -
ok so use nlite to slip stream sp2 on windows xp sp0 disc (as i also have sp2 disc) and also slipstream in the driver you posted. Then once all installed then install sp3 using sp3 disc. Will give this a go and once done will post outcome.
-
That process will work fine. If you plan on doing a lot of installs, I suggest you slipstream SP2 into your SP0 disc, then slipstream SP3 into the new disc.

Hi All,
I bought my Dell Studio 1537 yesterday only. I tried to install Windows XP SP2 on it after formatting drives and removing Vista premium. When XP cd finished copying all drivers a Blue Screen comes.
How can i Install Windows XP? -
-
hello back again with some GREAT NEWS!!!
I got my xps m1330 back to xp pro. nlite is one of the greatest programs to use SOOOOO simple. I managed to slipstream sp2 onto the disc but the only issue i had was not being able to slipstream the ahci driver. it asked for .inf files there where to so i chose the ahci 1 but when using the disc it failed to see the hdd. so i changed the mode in the bios to ata and it installed fine. I know there is a way to still install the ahci driver in windows xp then activate it in bios and it will work all the same. is the correct??
also i forgot how GREAT XP is. i wont even bother going to windows 7 if it does not perform better than xp. they should just rerelease windows xp and watch the sales soar lol. -
.Vista is an excellent operating system.
-
thats what they said about windows ME lol.
so is it still possible to install the ahci driver and changed it back in the bios even though xp is now stalled? -
Yes, but it's a huge pain. If slipsteaming was too much for you, I'd suggest skipping this. You won't really notice a difference anyway because your system has a single hard drive and no eSATA port. AHCI and ATA modes will be pretty much the same performance wise.
If you want to do it just to do it, I can look for a guide but I'd suggest just googling around. -
i tried to slip stream it. was i supposed to choose multiple driver and chose the "ahci" and "stor" inf files?? i chose single driver and chose the ahci.inf file and it didnt recognise the hdd. was i supposed to hit f6 during setup???
-
hey again, i used this form with all drivers posted to downgrade my unit to windows xp, also followed post #80 on how to install achi driver after xp installation. ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=153941&page=40)
I wanted to ask is it possible for me to go an download the latest drivers for all hardware on my system?? or will this cause issues? -
It should not be an issue.
