    Hi people,

This is from direct2dell Dell BIOS update blog, a comment from one of the many customers.

I just want to know if the bold part is true or not?

Or if any one of you faced similar problems?

Or if this is just another of the many disappointed customers who are facing new issues with the BIOS update?

Just wanted to say the Vostro 1500 just had the bios update realeased. On another note, nvidia is splitting the costs with oem 50/50 since the cases used for some laptops might also increased the failure rate. I find the bios update to be bogus, since this will extend our computers life till the warranty expires.......... Also the bios was so rushed they didn't update the nvidia regular graphics drivers, should you install the bios update and remove your nvidia drivers and try to reinstall the verison on dells site, it will not recognize the card, and just search for hours. So they made another problem, that aren't aware of. ........... Dell should do a controlled recall, and gradually replace computers, but it seems like dell is just kind of leaving their customers with a bios update that makes the fan noisier, and the battery life last less.

Even if it's true it seems like a moot point to me. The drivers Dell would have on their site would be outdated, so you'd be either using Nvidia's regular reference drivers or modded drivers/inf files from laptopvideo2go.

Using laptopvideo2go drivers with modded INF files will still work, if this is true.

Hey Wolfpup > Thanks for your reply.

Well, I use dell drivers and I have the BIOS update. Though I don't really remember exactly if I tried out changing drivers or messing around with them after the update. But yeah, many people I know of here, have indeed changed or tried on Dell drivers even after the update, as mentioned in the other Driver Poll thread, but they didn't report any issue or problems...

So... hmmm... don't know. And I don't think its like every Dell user out there is installing drivers from laptopvideo2go.. :) many I am sure probably get it from Dell. Given that, since no one is really reporting any issues as such, at least till now, I don't know if this argument / claim is true. Though it sounded interesting :)

Just to give you guys who like laptopvideo2go... the temperatures for those are higher than their Dell driver equivalent counterparts. Hence if you like a driver version on laptopvideo2go, ALWAYS check the Dell drivers page before you hastily download from there. Keep in mind some of the driver versions can't be found in the M1530 driver page, but are located at the M1330 driver page, but they work perfectly.

I assume the same is true if you just install Nvidia's reference drivers?

If so...why? I installed the regular drivers on a Macbook Pro and it seemed to function completely normally-the drivers even recognized the GPU as a mobile chip, and it didn't seem to lose any functionality.

The one theory I can think of is the Macbook Pro's (GPU related) fan is system controlled, while the Dell actually controls it's GPU fan through the video drivers (?)

No. The reason is because of the INI file. Each manufacturer has their own INI file optimized for their own notebooks. A notebook with say an INI file that works great for ASUS may not be the best that works for Dell. Hence why despite you get good performance after installing your drivers from places like laptopvideo2go, it may run cool on an ASUS notebook, but run hotter on a Dell Notebook despite slight performance differences.

Best thing to do is download Dell drivers in order to have a good optimized version that results in less heat and better performance. Of course Dell doesn't offer all the latest drivers, but the fact is, what they have does work very well.

You can install the latest ones from Laptopvideo2go, but keep in mind certain drivers excel at movie playback, some are optimized for gaming, and since none of the drivers are optimized for Dell, there may be greater temperatures and in some cases, loss of performance despite being a newer version.

Hope that clears things up. :)
