What's the scoop on the Dell BH200 bluetooth headset? A Google search on the subject doesn't yield many good results. One thing in particular: where's the microphone? The manual says that when you go from headphone mode to headset mode the earpieces go from stereo to mono, so does the other ear piece somehow become a microphone?

I recently bought this headset with a new Inspiron 9400. The microphone appears to be within the right earpiece; the same one that holds the remote controls. I have not used the mic yet. I've been generally pleaed with the sound quality.

Since this msg came up as the top search in Google, I'm going to offer some troubleshooting advice. The system came with Vista, and the OS or drivers are buggy. The system is very particular how you set it up. The device has to be connected with no media players open. Once connected, open the playback devices under the sound controls and set the headphones as the default device. THEN, open the media player and everything should work. If things still don't work, Dell recommends hitting the reset button.

I've also spent some time trying to get them working on Ubuntu 7.04, but no sounds has been transmitted yet.

Did you make a decision on which headset to buy?

Hi... Thank you very much for the suggestion.
When the headset is successfully paired and we have connected the headset from 'Audio' tab, by default it should play through it. It should not play through the laptop speakers.
Now as per your suggestion I have set the headphones as default device and you are right; it worked properly. But when I switched off the device, the laptop speakers should work. I think as headset was default, laptop speakers didnot work.At that point do we need to change the default again?
If it is so, then its really hectic.
But some days before it was working fine. After connecting the headset successfully the playback automatically was riding over to headset and after disconnecting it was automatically transferred to laptop speakers.
i have even tried to reset the headset....
Now what to do? How will it work properly so that when I'll connect the bluetooth headset it'll automatically takeup the sound and after disconnecting the laptop speakers will automaticcaly take the sound..

Well, that's how it does work for me under Vista. I paired the headset with the notebook and set it as the default sound option. When I go to the BT control area and "connect" the headset to the notebook, all of the audio goes through the headset. When I disconnect the headset, it reverts to the notebook speakers.

Is this not how it works for you?

BTW, I only use the BH200's as stereo headphones for watching DVD's and such. They work great.

Found this thread in Google. Anyone had any luck in making this Work in Stereo mode? I am able to use it only in Mono despite the "stereo" mode connected in the BT Audio Tab

You need to configure it in the audio sources. Right click on the speaker icon on your task bar. Somewhere in there you can configure what your default audio output is. I set my BH200 as the default source. Now when I turn on the headset, it gets the sound automatically.

Hey Pralix, I did what u said. This makes sure that when the BT headset is on, the sound will be routed to it and when its off speakers will kick in - exactly what we want......but the trouble is that the damn thing still works in Mono. This BH200 thing shows up two profiles under BT Devices - one for Stereo headset use and other for mono with microphone use. I keep only the stereo one connected and yet it works only in mono.

I tried on my A2DP enabled phone too, same result (although in phone there is no choice which profile to connect and so perhaps it defaults to Mono with mic)

On the XPS M1330 I found right clicking was not enough.

What I had to do finally to connect in XP Pro SP3 was
    Code:
START> CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES> then change every setting to Bluetooth High Definition Audio.
This finally saved the config correctly and the BH200 works fine.

And yes as it sits now I will have to physically change the above settings for regular speaker play and pc sounds.

But, a .bat file can be written for that. If I find myself watching movies on the computer regular then I will implement the script to switch settings easily.
As it is I don't need it, so switching physically is a rare thing.

    Blessings,
    Chetanji :)

Hi folks , I am new to bluetooth on the Inspiron 1525 running Vista.
I managed to get the BH200 headphones recognized and connected .
But I dont know how to send any audio over to them :(.

Once connected, I have tried vlc player and media player, and I cant see where to select the bluetooth audio source (be it stereo or mono).

Could someone provide a screen capture ?

    many thanks
    :)
