Why does this darn fan go on and off regularly on my b130 with celeron even when it is just sitting there with no windows open.

does everyone else who has the same thing observe this.

It's the bios telling the fans to turn off. When the bios thinks the computer is cool enough, the fans will go to a slow speed or even turn off. That means the processor temp. goes up, and the fans come back on. Dell did that with the i9300 to save battery power, but it stills does turns off when it is plugged up too.

yeah, i understand that. but it comes on and off too reguarly. the cycling time is short. it would literally come on for about 10 seconds. and then turn off again for a minute or two, and again come on for about 10 seconds. All this time, there are no applications or anything running on the computer, i uninstalled nearly all the junk dell gave me and the machine is sitting on my desk.

lets see if this gets better when the ambient room temperature is cooler.

by the way, this is the first laptop i've personally owned, and i'm never buying a desktop again =D

    thanks for the reply

Yeah, the fans are doing what they are supposed to do. In the 10 seconds on high, the fan can cool down the processor 5-10C. That is alot when you think about it. You computer is fine. Glad you like it.
