I record music on my e1705. I recently ran into a problem where I can't run the mic through my speakers as a studio monitor. On my old HP it had the option of muting or changing the volume levels on the microphone, allowing me to run the mic through my headphones/speakers. Is this a hardware limitation to sigmatel audio, or is this a software issue? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks-

Right click on the volume control on the taskbar, choose open volume control, go to the options tab, choose properties, in the properties window choose the recording option and check line in and microphone, and click ok.

That's only for recording; I need mic controls for playback.
    Any other ideas?

It's not going to happen. The best you can do is follow the registry fix here. This will give you a mic slider that does control the mic volume, but the slider itself will be in the recording section.

I use QCD as my media player. Today I ran across a plugin that allows the line-in to be used as an input source for the player.

    The advantages of this:
    • The ability to rip anything plugged in to the line in jack to mp3/ogg/flac/etc.
    • The ability to run the source through the player's equalizer.
    • Provides line in volume control via the main system volume buttons instead of digging through the volume properties windows.
