A lot of people are having problems with their dell laptop screens.

I am ordering form Dell japan which claims that in Japan *monitors* are built in japan and then assembled in china. Would that include laptop screens?
Would laptop screens have the same problems as North American DELL (graininess on WXGA+ screens) on Vostro 1500 series.

    Thanks ..

    No one knows?

Any response ASAP would be great. Must order within next 10 hours to get free shipping and no tax ie save well over 100$..dell doesn't do big sales here but thats pretty impressive for them in Japan.

it depends on the screen manufacturer, as far as i know

sec or seiko epson screen has graininess
auo or au optronics screen has graininess

the only one without graininess would be the lgphilips screen

But does Dell Japan/Asia use the same screens as Dell North America?

the return policy here isn't as "flexable"

sry to sound n00bish but how exactly can i figure out the make of a screen? Id like to check the one on my toshiba.

since u said the screens are manufactured in japan.... it would most likely be a sec or lgphilips screen, i am from asia too and i got an "sec" screen for my 1720, and my friend here got lgphilips screen for his vostro 1500 which is excellent

honestly i am not bothered by this graininess at all,

anyways it would be a good idea to ask your Customer service rep as to which screens do they use....

EDIT:to check the screen manufacturer go to device manager->monitors->generic pnp monitor->in properties goto details tab->in the drop down menu select "hardware ids"
