i went online with tech and explained problem and gave previous case number and she asked if i would like it replaced.

she gave me a dispatch number which i thought was odd since no one was coming here. I asked if i was getting a new computer - she said yes and i was to return the old one in the box of the new one.

I have her name and ID number. Does this sound believable? Has anyone gotten a laptop replaced?
Do you get a delivery confirmation email with a tracking # as on the original order so you know when it's coming?

    thanks for your help.

If the machine has had a history of problems, most manufacturers will eventually offer a replacement in order to save trouble for their technicians and for you (policies probably differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, though).

thank you. it just seemed so impossible to believe after all i've read on the forums. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not a refurbished piece of junk. I should have done more research but it's a nice computer for the price (if it worked right).

Unsure if its refurbished or a completely new computer though. You should be able to track your order from manufactoring and shipping if its a new computer. Could be worth checking that otherwise =)

The above post is correct as well, you will often get a refurbished model. ;)

Normally if you return & replace w/in the 21 day of being invoiced..You will get a new one. After 21 days...refurbished.

I agree there is a good chance you could be getting a refurb.

Just be sure to keep everything you do with your Rep, documented! Have they given you any type of *case number*. ;)

Good luck, I do hope it is a new once you receive! :D

    Cin ;) :)

I got a complete new replacement, not a refurb....refurbs have a big green sticker on the bottom saying so, and they are not allowed to leave that out.
And all depends on what kind of service you have...

You'll be getting a new laptop. In the box, there will be instructions on how to send the old one back.

    YOU WILL BE GETTING REFURBISHED!

Sure they will build a laptop that looks and packaged like new.
However, they will build it with refurbished parts.

Technically, it is not a refurbished laptop like ones you buy from DELL Outlet because they have to build system that matches your configuration. They will do so with refurbished parts. May use some new parts if refurbished parts are not available.

    See the problem I having.

If your laptop cover is in good condition, have them repair it instead. Or you may be refurbished cover which is worse than refurbished laptops sold at Dell outlet which practically is new (these refurbished laptops are new returns or ones that were canceled before shipping out).

    @lambition
Why did you expect a new one if you never bought a new one?
different story, if you buy a scratch and dent you'll never receive a boxfresh unit i think

    I didn't buy a scratch and dent.

I bought perfectly good laptop although it may be refurbished.

DELL will use refurbished parts on systems 21 days or older regardless of where and what condition system you bought.

I expected a new one because DELL representative told me it is new.

I wouldn't really mind getting refurbished if it was in quality that is as good as new one. At least as good as refurbished laptops they sell at dell outlet.
But what they sent me was dented and paint chipped of laptop along with many other problems.

Am I supposed to expect getting dented laptop if I didn't buy new?

nope...but if you buy a refurb expect a refurb replacement
if you buy scratch n dent expect a scratch n dent replacement.

But indeed, if you're not satisfied, and i agree u shouldn't be, you should get another replacement. Just don't take that as proof that every single replacement is a refurb. New is replaced with new in MANY cases

hope my replacement M4400 will not be a refurb :S

do they place a green sticker on the base in the UK as well?-if its refurbed

the DTS guy did say when he was replacing my parts (the first service call) that since the model is so new the replacement parts are very unlikely to be refurbs

Green sticker is on it only if you are actually buying refurbished laptop from DELL outlet or resellers you bought refurbished DELLs.

The one you are getting is built from DELL to match your current system with refurbished and new parts. So, it will not have green sticker since it is not really a refurbished laptop. Ones with green stickers are ones that have been already configured in the factory and was returned because customer just didn't want it or for some other reasons. These refurbished laptops will have configurations as it was built in the factory first time.

It will be hard to match a customer's original configuration with ones that is already built. So, they will custom build one with refurbished parts instead.

From my experience, systems built with refurbished parts are worse than regular refurbished systems. Refurbished parts are ones that was removed from broken laptop and might have been roughly handled.
Refurbihsed laptops sold in DELL outlet are mostly new ones returned/canceld by a customer. Therefore, they really are new.

I did get another replacement because first replacement was dented. And second replacement was even worse. The pictures I posted in tabletpcreview.com are from second replacement.

Getting two dented and defective laptops in a row. I think that proves enough.
Just how many times should I get exchange to get the one at least as good as the original system I had?
