uninstall all of that crap antivirus stuff. And install nod32, its the best antivirus out there imo. And it updates itself like every hour. Also it takes up less memory than any other antivirus out there.

I read alot of the "Consumer reports" magazines, and stuff. They actually advise some of the best software to date.
The best Anti-Spyware software available is actually

-Microsoft Anti-spyware (Beta) = which is free for download.
-Micro-Trend Anti-Virus which is for subscribed users, but so far the top of the ranks.

For now i'm using my desktop for internet use, and testing for spyware and other things before placing on the notebook.

Btw, putting up some footage soon of the gameplay performance of my 9400 model. So stay tuned, as soon as I edit some of it so it's not one long large file that FRAPS can't compile down in size for the length it's at.

Hey MSF, how's the screen on your Dell? I'm planning to get an Inspiron 9400 myself but would like to have more impressions about it before I buy. Do you think the Completecare warranty's worth it? How about the keyboard? Quality as good as Sony or borderline poor like the ones on Acer laptops? Anyway, it'll be great if you could answer those questions. Thanks! :)

Personally, I don't buy warranty's and usually just the default warranty that comes with it. But again, I press my luck because I don't think most of the time a warranty will not do much. Because any given company will resort to "it's your fault not theres..." kinda attitude.

I will say the screen isn't like "Bad" but at the lower the resolution, the fuzzier it gets. But the sharpness isn't something i'm attracted to because I like my eyes the way they are.

The brightness is rather ummm... it's good. Because if your pc gaming alot, you don't exactly want a too bright of screen. You want to make sure it can get semi-bright to where you can see all the high-resolution textures on objects without HDR, or light bloom getting in the way. But with that screen leak crap, I never seem to have gotten at all, or the sparkle stuff. At least I cannot tell the difference.

The keyboard as everyone will say... could use improvements by actually filling in some of the space as needed. But you can manually turn off your mouse touch pad so when gaming, or developing on any application. The touch pad wont get in the way and you can fully use your keyboard. Otherwise you will get used to it rather quick if you keep your interest there and stay happy for the other things the notebook provides.

Thank you MSF! On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be getting the Inspiron 9400 afterall. I'm used to Sony quality and the Dell would sure dissapoint... well, for me at least. :p

What kind of battery life are you getting MSF? I'm specifically concerned about office type tasks with or without wireless on.

It's about an hour and 10 minutes for default battery life, but doesn't matter to me, just as long as i'm on the go I can bring it to any destination for work.

For Office tasks, I don't have a clue, maybe longer. I only work with 3D applications, and 2D editing software, and enhanced editors, and certian games.

But hopefully someone else can answer it for you.

    OMG.

Microsoft have already admitted allowing some 'partners' spyware STILL to get through.

Your statement is like letting the fox look after the chickens etc.

Do not trust Microsoft for computer security/firewall/spyware. If anything, Microsoft will be spying on you.

ps. My 9400 is on order, anyone using the wireless under Linux (ubuntu) yet ?

    Dougie.

edit :- i resent that newbie title against this post :)

i've only been working in IT since 1985 LOL

Like hardocp could review a lightswitch without using the words "kick***" or "bad ***" multiple times.
