When I placed my 9400 order last week, the estimated ship date was 2/15. I happened to cruise by Dell tonight to see if the date had slipped (I need the machine for on-the-road demoing of a GPU-intensive app in March) and saw that it shipped today. I assume this is the computer itself and not some sort of shovelware and/or accessories as I only ordered the laptop. Should be interesting to crack open the box on Tuesday.

I'm not a laptop expert so any review would be very limited. The 7800 GPU is my main interest. The dual procs will be nice as my apps are multithreaded. My order was a toss up between the 9300 and the 9400. When I configured a 9300 to be nearly equivalent to the standard 9400 (minus the dual procs and a 6800 instead of the 7800), the 9400 ended up being only a couple hundred $$$ more.

it's dual cores, not dual processors... don't be confused, it isn't the same. It'll still run your multithreaded apps more efficiently for ya tho :)

Haven't used a dual-cpu rig in so long! I'd be interested in seeing some benchmarks from that machine if you ever get the chance to run some tests and post some results, maybe some pics, that'd be sweet :).

nice, any feedback on the 9400 and its performance would be fantastic. It's good to see the Dell shipments aren't backlogged or anything -- I bet a lot of manufacturers won't actually start shipping until into February for their dual cores. Acer and Dell seem to be on top of getting the first dual cores out. I hope to get the e1705 this week and promise to post first thoughts and benchmarks on that once I have it in hand!

Minor difference as far as I'm concerned. It's two full processors. Doesn't matter if they share a die, are two separate dies in a single package, or are two completely separate packages. The particular L2 configuration probably won't make much of difference to my app, either.

I won't run any of the PC benchmarks but I will post a comparison of the new machine to my existing ones running my own apps. My desktop is an old 2.26GHz P4 which is slow compared to today's systems. My current laptop is a Sony PCG-K23 with a 2.8GHz P4. It beats the desktop by about the clock speed difference which surprised me. I expected the laptop to be dumbed down somewhat for power savings. I'm not sure what the P4-equivalent clock speed is for 1.83GHz T2400. I'm guessing it'll perform like a 2.8GHz P4. We'll see.

There is no need to be an expert to write a review here. Heck, they even posted mine. As you'll be the one of the first on the block with one, there will be a lot of interested parties.
