    Hi,

    I recently purchased a new 9400 suppose to have a 7200 drive but i have a toshiba MK-1032GSX installed.

Everywhere i look this spec shows its a 5400!

Is there anyway of confirming by a test or system tool what the rpm of the drive is?

I have checked and can not find a toshiba MK-1032GSX stated at 7200 rpm.

Is it possible that Dell has attempted a fast one on me and only installed a 5400 although i selected a 7200 drive?

Anybody know what make and model is installed in your dell 9400? both 5400 and 7200's

Any info would be much appreciated.

    Regards

Hi Jamie. It shoulds like Dell gave you the wrong HDD. I would contact Dell and see what they say. Double check your packing slip and make sure that 7200rpm HDD is listed.

I searched your HDD model and only found 5400rpm HDD, but AMDvsIntel made a good suggestion. HD Tune will give you the info about your HDD.

Only Seagate and Hitachi make 7200RPM drives. The Toshiba is not 7200RPM.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for the speedy reply, im very impressed as it was my first post.

I have used HD Tune and it shoes all the specs however there is no section actually detailing what the Rpm is of the drive. I ran a test through on the drive and the results were as follows.

    Min - 7.3 MB/s
    Max - 34.5 MB/s

    Average - 27.8 MB/s

    Access Time - 17.9 ms
    Burst - 68.3 MB/s

Please can you compare with your 5400 drives or 7200 so I can comfirm a mistake has been made

    Regards

Toshiba does not make any 7200RPM notebook hard drives therefore it cannot be a 7200RPM drive. You should call Dell to rectify the problem.

If you paid for a 7200RPM drive an didn't get one, they won't charge you. If they do I would start raising cain. I however doubt they will upgrade you to MCE. Can't hurt to ask.

Upgrade? I already have MCE installed which came with the laptop all I want is the actual operating system on a disc so i can get rid of it from the hard drive and free up a few gb.
