    Dell 9400/E1705, same thing?

    I'm confused on the new Duo Dell. The 9400 and E1705, which you get through by selecting 9300 in the Home site (why?), appear to be the same machine. Any reason for the name change?

    Also, I've tried the $750 Dell coupon on the 9400/E1705 and it doesn't work. There's no error message on Dell's site, the price simply doesn't change ($2200 - 400 = $1899). Someone on another thread apparently had success with the coupon, I guess Dell fixed that problem!

    What I'm most interested in is a notebook with the Nvidia 7800 GPU. The XPS M170 doesn't appear to have any coupons. It's also far more expensive than the 9400.

    1) Is the 9400/E1705 the best choice for a Nvidia 7800 notebook?

    2) Is there any way to get the $750 coupon to work on the 9400?

    3) The E1705 has a preliminary ship date of 2/13/2006. How accurate is this date? What is Dell's history on meeting ship dates on new products?

    I appreciate any help with this.

    1) As far as I know, that's the only notebook currently available with the 7800.
    2) The coupon just expired, I just tried with another Inspiron and applied the coupon and it didn't work.
    3) This I don't know.

    As far as I know, the 9400 and E1705 are the same machine. I really don't know why they have different names. This isn't the same machine as the 9300 but the design is the same. The differences are: Different motherboard, different processors (new one has two), different GPU, different wireless, and 5 in 1 card reader to name a few (if not all).

    How do you like your 9300? Have you run 3dMark05 on it? I've read that there are two versions of the Go6800 with one being significantly faster.

    I'm looking for a machine to demo my GPU-intensive apps at upcoming conferences (scientific apps, not games). The 2/13/2006 date makes me nervous.

    The ship date should be pretty accurate, in fact I think it's conservative. They are the same machine marketed to different audiences. You may notice configuration differences at home and small business, but genereally they're the same unit.
