Hey guys bought a dell 9100 on ebay but the screen flickers like crazy. I have tried install and uninstalling the drivers but was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem, and came up with a workable solution. the moral of this story don't buy laptops on ebay.

If your seller claimed that the laptop was working, you should definitely try to file a claim. Paypal is typically buyer-biased and will refund your money in most cases.

That being said, this is probably a problem with the GPU or display, neither of which are probably easy to fix. Does it put out a steady picture on an external monitor?

thanks for a fast reply It still flickers if it is connected to the monitor it seems like the inverter but i can't really be sure. I will file a claim with paypal i deiced to contact the seller first.

Its not the inverter, if it still flickers when connected to a monitor. Bad video chip, to me it sounds like.

I love the 9100's... those were some BAD A$$ computers..

only thing I couldn't stand was the btx case cause I was limited with case options.. but I had mine souped up for the 6 years I had it, so if you have more questions, lemme know. I know that chassis like the back of my hairy palm. *snicker*

What do you mean flickers, anyways? like screen goes out, or "jumps".. or do you mean color flickers?

if it has the stock ATI x300, they're junk. get a 9800GTX you won't be sorry.. but don't go any higher than that probably because the FSB and RAM aren't fast enough to fully utilize the power of a serious card.

You can't get a 9800 GTX in this, this is a laptop. The max you can get is like the ATi Mobility Radeon 9600, 9700, and 9800.

scratch that... keyword, "dont buy LAPTOPS on ebay" lol I didn't see that part. I was thinking it was a dimension 9100

OKAY.... does it flicker when you move the screen?

open your screen to 90 degrees. push straight down just a little... does that fix the problem? try putting pressure on the bottom of the screen as well, but not much.. Just wondering if it might be a loose connection, the screen, or the video card.

i mean the brightness goes from light to dark to light quickly. Happens every 5 seconds. Pretty sure its the video card, seller is saying that it is the hard drive i already started a claim but it is up to Ebay at this point i guess the seller was mad.

I pushed on the laptop and it was the same moving the screen didn't help either. I am thinking that maybe it is a bad hard drive driver issue, or video Card?
