I lost my 90W adapter for My dell inspiron 1720.

When i called dell They told me to renew my warranty which costs about 175$ for a year, and since the adapter is not in stock with them and therefore will have to be imported from Malaysia. they say that since the adapter is lost it will not be covered under warranty, warranty will be applicable only if we return the old one.. i mean this is bullS%^t, now i have to pay for warranty as well as the adapter..

    whats going on please help

Have you check third-party sellers? When my Vostro 1500's adapter broke I was able to get a new one for about $30 (and, yes, it was a real Dell part and not some knock-off).

E-bay, $10 w/ free shipping for knock-off or $28 w/ free shipping for OEM Dell

honestly, are the ones selling on ebay original stuff, my friend bought a replacement adapter from ebay and it was duplicate and the build quality sucked so much that it melted all the circuits inside...

How do we know its original and not a knock off, like any visible signs on it?

here are my options from dell, which is the best in your opinion ?:

Look for the ads with OEM in the title, or the Dell logo on the power supply in the picture. I bought an OEM one for my old Inspiron 1100 on E-Bay. Dell always wants way to much for there stuff.

I got my genuine Dell adapter from an Amazon 3rd party seller if you don't like ebay. There are lots of small companies selling stuff like this, but I'm not sure how much this applies to India.
