I usually check out the parts Dell has listed for the E1705/9400 every several days as it seems they are adding to the list. I came across the following Battery info. I was going to call customer service but thought I'd check with the forum peeps first...

    9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery for Dell Inspiron 9200/9400/E1705/XPS M170 Notebooks - Price: 179.95

9-Cell Lithium-Ion Primary Battery for Dell Inspiron 9400 Notebook
    - Price: 179.95

The only diffs i can find is that the first link states the batt is 14.8 VDC and the second link is 11.1 VDC. The info about the batt 'fuel guage' only appears on one. The Manufacturer part numbers are identical but the Dell part numbers are different... hmmmm.

Is there a major difference in life between these two? Thoughts?

My best guess is the one for the XPS has a tad more VDC because of the higher power video cards.

But whatever you do buy, buy it on ebay and save $110!

Yes... ebay is a great place.... I don't know about saving $110.. but you will for sure be able to pick one up in the $70-$90 range.

Yeah I'm not in need of another batt at this point. I just wanted to see some feedback on this one.

Other than the higher VDC - I dont really see a difference. Well, now that I think about it, they should both include the 'fuel gauge' - right? I thought all newer batts had the LED guage.

    Well, new from Dell it's $180 + $10 tax = $190.

You can get them on ebay for $80-$90 shipped.

I'm not familiar on what is the difference but this site has some (useful) information on the above batteries that you mentioned. It says, a battery with 14.4 or 14.8 voltage has 4 Li-Ion cells in series while the battery with 10.8 or 11.1 voltage has 3 Li-Ion cells in series.
As for fuel gauge, I think to determine whether both include fuel gauge is to have them both and see if there is indicator on how much battery is left. If so then it includes fuel gauge :)
