    Hello!
Its my first day with new dell 7559 (i7-6700HQ, 8GB RAM, 1TB SHDD, GTX 960M). It's going good so far except for these two issues, which are bit of a concern as it took several months for laptop to reach here from US and it may not be best of the options to send it back for repair in-case of anything serious.

    1. There's a strange smell (like something's burning) at the bottom part of the laptop (where the stickers are). Its not heated from there at all, but the smell is still there after a day. It even stays there when the laptop is turned off for a while. Is it something burning? or just the smell of newly polished plastic. I can only smell it if I sniff from close range.

    2. The CPU heat-ups. Although its only slightly warmed-up at above keyboard (first 3-4 rows of keyboard + the area having button), but the main concern is the CPU temperature. It's written at multiple places that 7559 stays around 35C-40C when idle. But this one keeps jumping around 50 with only few tabs and a download open. Can it be harmful in longer run? I don't have any game to test (downloading CS:GO to test it now) but I tried to push the CPU using Photoshop + Large image files and it crossed 82-83 for cores, should I be worried? The temperature outside is kept around 23C-24C. I am yet to use the GPU for longer period of time but I opened it to rotate a very large image PSD and it stayed around 55C.

Here are the temps that I am able to note till now.

Previously, all cores were used to 98-100% but the result was similar.

Should I be worried? I am about to get a cooling pad with 2+ fans to make sure that it doesn't harm much, but are the temps bad enough to take additional steps? I want this device to last 3-4 years just like my previous laptop.

The temperatures are okay. They could be lower but I would say that they are within normal operating range.

As for the smell, could it be a new laptop smell?

Yes, they appear okay, but I am worried about them hitting high later on when both CPU+GPU will be used for longer duration.

Day 2, smell is still there. I have no idea. Its still cool from there. I've played CS:GO for 2-3 minutes @ 1080p and high settings. Will be playing it for long tonight to see if it creates any troublesome heat.

Here are the ones after 30-40 mins of PS2-Tekken5 gameplay @ 1200x1200 res and default settings (only MTVU was turned on - DX11 HW).

Is 85C worrying for CPU? Please note that 53C was after closing the game as I can't overlay it during game. GPU seems fine.

Update: Played CS:GO at 1080p with 8x texture depth around 40 mins and one of the core peaked at 92C. Is this normal?

CPU's running a bit hot but not too crazy. You could repaste if you want but I don't think it's worth the effort at the moment.

Yes esp. when its brand new.

I have installed an additional 8GB Ram (Used) and its idle temps are crawling from 46C-55C now. Light load takes it to 60C. Is this normal?
Max load is still around 78C with turboboost off.
