Can the S-video output be connected to regular RCA to connect to TV's that don't have s-video?

are you asking this because you've tried it and were unsuccessful or because you just want to know if it's possible?

    hmmm...

well my roommate has a 700 and i have a 6000. i regularly use my laptop to go s-video -> RCA on our tv (i actually go through the vcr) with no problems.

however, when we tried the exact same cabling setup on his 700 (just unplugged from my s-vid port and plugged into his), it didn't work. the tv(/vcr) was not recognized by the laptop; i.e., when we tried to toggle between LCD / CRT, it didn't recognize that anything was plugged in.

he has no problems connecting to external monitor however. i don't know if it's his s-vid port that has a problem or what.

i was hoping you had tried it and had something to say about it.

I'm not sure about the RCA thing, but if you hook up your laptop to TV via s-video, the quality will be really lousy and everything will be blurred, unless you have one of those monitors.

I am having the same problem on my 700m. I just tried to connect it to an lcd tv with the s-video port but nothing shows up. The screen kinda flickers on the tv, but no picture, just blank???

You might want to change the resolution of your laptop down to 1024x768, and then try to plug it into the tv, since many tvs won't support 1280x800.

True my tv doesn't seem to support the 1280x800, so i switched it to 1024x768. Still i didn't get a picture on the tv screen. It did however always kinda flicker, like it was getting a signal but could't analyze the picture.

Well low and behold, i went to the desktop and right clicked. On the list of options is "properties" which i used to change the resolution....BUT also on that list is something called "graphic options" then got to "output to" and there is a list:

    MONITOR
    TELEVISION
    NOTEBOOK
    INTEL DUAL DISPLAY CONE
    EXTENDED DESKTOP

i clicked on television and up pops my computer screen on the tv screen.!!!
only thing is, its in black and white. I looked through all of the options and nothing would change it. its already set to color on all of the option. Anyway I got it, and yes, it will automatically convert your computers resolution to 1024x768.

    Thanks for the help.

Any ideas about the color just chime in.

with my 700m i actually used a video converter box so that i could go s-video to RCA because my TV didn't have an s-video port. that worked out quite well; i used to use my 700m as my dvd player all the time.
