I just got a Dell 700M with 1.6 gig processor 512 mb of ram and it is a lot slower than my HP 950mhz with 256 mb of ram. i have scanned for virus/spyware all that type of stuff and there are no problems with any of that type of stuff. but the harddrive is making a funny clicking noise on a regular basis and when it does, it makes the light on come on saying the harddrive is active even if i am not doing anything but sitting here watching it. also when it makes the weird clicking noise basically everything freezes on the computer. i think i am having harddrive problems and i was wondering if anyone had this problem or any other ideas. i have also ram all the dell diagnostics and they are all reporting that their is no problem with the harddrive. thanks for the help

I;ve heard of this problem...the inspiron 700m is supposed to be a very speedy machine ...it is comparable to a p4 2.8 which is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the 950 mhz...

It sounds like there's a hard drive problem...exchange it I guess.

    Good luck!

i just got done talking to dell this time they had me take out and reseat the hardrive and then reset the bios back to the factory setting. so far it hasnt click and it is has been on for about 15 minutes so hopefully it is that simple of a fix. im tired of waiting hours for someone to actually not be busy and pick up the phone http://support.dell.com/support/edo...d.htm#wp1102176 that is the link they gave me for reseating the drive.

was it running so slowing because of this problem as well?

hopefully this helps if anyone else is having the problem
