Wow my battery on my dell 700m barely even lasts an hour when doing heavy activity. My question is how to optimize the battery.

When I remove the charger on the laptop, the screen gets remarkably darker than it is with the charger plugged in, which seems to be a battery saving feature. My question is how to keep the screen settings with the charger on (bright) when the charger is not plugged in, even though it wastes more battery, it is much pleasing to the eye.

I have a 700 too. It would seem like the notebook "remembers" different settings, one for plugged-in, one for battery.

So to set the brightness, just increase it with the "Fn" + "->" (up brightness) key combination while it's on battery power to the maximum. I believe the max when plugged-in is the same as when on battery.

Another way to increase your battery life is to set your notebook to the "max power saving" setting in the battery management. This will make your notebook's CPU less powerful, though.
