Hi, after shopping around i have decided to get the Dell 640m, but currently i am trying to customize the system.
The RAM as default is 2X512 DDR2 533Mhz, i can change it to 1024X1 or 1024X2 DDR 667Mhz, does this make a difference?
Also, does the rpm of the Hard disk, upgrade to 7200rpm will improve performance, noticeible i mean of cos!

    thanks again

Are you purchasing from Dell? Looking at the Dell site, the base config comes w/ 512MB X 1 @ 533mhz, w/ no option to upgrade to 667mhz. It would probably be cheaper for you to configure it with the cheapest RAM option available, and purchase additional RAM elsewhere.

For example, just today I was able to get 2 * 1GB of Kingston ValueRam for $115.98 + TAX. For $100, you'd only be able to get an additional 512MB stick from Dell.

On the Australian site, there is a free upgrade to 512x2 at the moment. I am asking if i should change to the 1024x1 667 option for 40aussie. aid future upgrade and may (unsure) can improve performance

    thanks

Howdy. Good to see another Aussie on the forums.

I got mine with 1x 667Mhz ram so I can upgrade to 2gb later. Yes, its worth it.

    After a quick Google search, I found that 40AUD's ~ $30USD.

& you're saying you're thinking about upgrading from

    2 X 512MB @ 533 Mhz to 1 X 1024MB @ 667 Mhz ?

For $30, I think it's worth it. You're getting the same amount of RAM in fewer Dimms, and at a slightly faster speed. Also, if you plan to upgrade in the future you wouldn't have to get rid of 1 or even 2 512MB dimms.

Of course, if these currency converters that I found are inaccurate, that might change things a little.
