At first, I thought it was because I needed to give my laptop a restart. I restarted it, still, the speakers aren't working. I thought it was the drivers, so I go and check that. Everything is working fine. I decided to plug in a pair of earphones to see if it works. Yeah, the earbuds work but why won't my speakers? That means the drivers and everything is working fine. Does anyone know what the problem is?

What was the initial problem that you needed to reboot your system in the first place? was it related to your speakers not functioning?.

Yeah, I thought it was due to me leaving the laptop on to long. I thought rebooting it would solve the problem, but it didn't.

I took things apart to check the wires inside to see if it was tightly connected. It was.

I ran Diagnostics, it proved that my speakers are indeed not broken and is working. So then I assume it's sometime of driver issue. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, but it never seems to work.

lgs, your running just the Sigmatel Audio driver right?

hmm..well heres a wild throw. go into your advanced audio properties, and under the speakers tab, make sure its set to desktop or laptop speakers? I was gonna quick suggest that the switch that disables the speakers when a headphone was plugged in, but if they work during the test, it shoots that theory out of the water.

I read around in a different forum. Alot of people with the same Inspiron model had the same problem. Here's the solution:

Just plug in some headphones halfway in and begin to lightly jiggle it until you hear volume from your speakers. Sometimes, it mistakens whether headphones are in or not, that was why I didn't get any sound from the speakers but I did with headphones. If anyone ever had that problem, or have it now, that's the quick and easy solution.

LGS thank you so much for posting your solution. I have been trying to figure out the same problem and it has been driving me crazy! A little jiggle of the plug brought my speakers back to life!
