Im trying to decide on my dell 6400 config. Should I pay the extra 180 for the upgrade to the intel core duo 2 t7200?? Is there a massive difference? and in gaming performance, considering i only have the radeon x1400 will there be a considerable difference between the two?

I'm really torn and need to order my laptop stat, thanks for any help

Huge difference. I can't even begin to express the difference you will see. Higher clock rate, higer front side bus, twice as much L2 cache. Everything about the Core 2 Duo is better. There is no reason not to upgrade. The T2050 is a budget Core Duo, while the T7200 is a top of the line Core 2 Duo. The difference will be phenomenal.

Depends on what you're using the laptop for. as notebook_ftw stated, the t7200 has twice the cache 4mb vs. 2mb, a 667 FSB vs the 533 FSB and a faster clock speed. That being said--if you're not going to be seriously crunching numbers or using applications that require 64 bit computing ability there's not much reason for an upgrade. The one thing that I could see the t7200 being useful for is future-proofing for Vista, should it ever come out. :D Depends on what you want it for. Most users could run on a p3 and never know the difference.

at least get the t5500, that will future proof for vista

unless you do a lot of compressing or media encoding, you won't notice the difference between t5500 and t7200

the t5500 won't be the bottle neck in gaming performace
