Wow, the Dell 6400 (E1505) is only $899 CAN now and includes the free ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 upgrade, free True Life screen upgrade, 1GB memory and 120GB hard drive! With taxes, the cost comes to $1009 CAN after their online purchase discount of $200. What a great deal!

I'm new to buying notebooks online as well as to Dell computers (I wish they had retailer stores). Is Dell shipping and handling free?? Are their notebooks reliable, well built and made of quality material? How is their tech support?? How long does it take to ship and arrive at its destination??

I might return my notebook- see my rig below - to Futureshop (I still have 12 days to return it) and get the Dell. However, the 6400 is kind of big and bulky, so I might keep my nice light Gateway laptop and save some money.

    Thanks for the help!

    1) Shipping and handling is usually free, I believe. If not, it happens to have been each time I've ordered with them. It will tell you with the toal.

    2) Reliability/build quality: Eh, they aren't bad, per se. If you're pretty sure you're going to be rough on it, look elsewhere. If you'll treat it like it cost you $1000, Dell is fine. I was pleasantly surprised by the 1505 I ordered as a gift.

    3) In my experience, support isn't really Dell's strongpoint - or something they're terribly concerned with at all, for that matter. You might get better support by ordering through the business section.

    4) Shipping: I just read another post of someone waiting on the fifth day. I'm guessing 6-7 days.

    5) Dell's main thing is value, and they really do well in that area.

    Good luck
