Okey, so I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 that have work very good since i bought it for a little bit more then a year ago (perfectly enough the guarantee just expired).

Then problem is, that when I turn on the computer, the screen turns it self of after about 2 seconds (some time it works for so long that I can enter Windows and work for a minute or so), so the computer don’t even had started to load Windows when it happens.

If I enter Bios, I can close the notebook and open it again and the screen will turn on for two seconds (can’t do the same thing inside Windows).

Connecting an extern monitor to the laptop, the extern monitor works perfect (not effected by the other screen wetter it’s turn on or turns off).

I can my self draw the conclusion that it isn’t Window’s that’s the problem.

And the only thing that I can think of is the Bios (except for the hardware being broke), but I have already tested to upgrade to the Bios A14 from A04 (that I have had since I bought the computer and was the bios I had when the problem a curd).

    Any one got an idea?

Run the Dell Diagnostics from the F12 boot screen. Sounds like a bad LCD or invertor. The diagnostics will hopefully tell you it is an invertor problem, but invertors often fail because the LCD backlight bulb is going bad. It sounds like it may be time for a screen with invertor. :(

It's presumably the backlight, since if I really look close at the screen, I can figure out shadows, not so I can work, but I can see them. Is there any thing I can do about that?

I have watch on Ebay where you can buy a new screen, about 200 us $, so there is that solution. But, then maybe it's possible to just change the broken part in the lcd? But is it the inverter or the backlight that's broken, if you can figure out shadows on the screen (for me it sounds like the backlight, but then I don't really know what a inverter is :D), any one that can tell?
