Hey i just got an inspiron 630m and everything on it works great except it makes a high pitch noise every once in awhile. After doing some research i found the way to fix it was to utilize a usb port or use a cpu clocking program to prevent the cpu to going into the C3 and C4 sleep modes. I talked to a dell tech guy and he said i could exchange for a new one but i'm just wondering if they're all like that?
So anyone with any experience could shed some light it'd be appreciated.

We didn't see that on our M140, which is essentially the same machine.

hmm..k thanks i think i'll just go for the return since they offered. I hope i get better luck on the second one cause other than that i really like this laptop.

Pitched noises are common for some laptops. It is due to the power capacitors as current flows through them.

Hi there,
i got the same exact problem as you described but with a XPS m140, they even exchange with a new computer for me but that doesn't help. My laptop didn't come with an internal bluetooth so i ordered one and installed it. It has been working great for about a week without any noises. if you didn't get internal bluetooth with it, you can order one and that way you won't see anything sticking out of you laptop.

Update,
if you turned off bluetooth that will come back again, so the bluetooth on all the time can kill a bit of you battery. I also found that if i'm on a website with macro media flash 8, or playing widows media player then that sound will come on. Check to see if you have the same problem. -
well mine doesn't seem to make any noise when flash or wmp on a webpage is on. It goes on randomly sometimes. There's always a faint high pitched noise if i put my ear near the machine but that doesn't really bother me during normal usage, it's when it becomes slightly louder at certain times that bothers me.

I was just offered a refund for credit for my D610 after a lengthy tech/repair/supervisor adventure. The noise starts low (you have to put your ear to it to hear it) but cranked up into this squealy, high-pitched noise that became irritating. I was eventually told that engineering said the noise to be within normal limits (I'm guessing they replicated the noise but not really got it into high pitch squeal mode), that an exchange would be futile, and that they could do a return for credit though he thought all centrino thin and lights would sound like this. My ass.. Needless to say I'm going to jump at the return offer and get a new laptop. I guess maybe not the 630m now, .
