The hard drive in my Inspiron 600m failed and I am looking for a replacement. The hard drive is Hitachi and the part number is 3T438. Someone is selling me a Seagate Notebook Internal HD 160GB Ultra ATA 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5 inch drive for PC/Mac. Is the drive compatible to my system? I only know I should not buy a SATA drive but I am not sure about this one.
Thanks

I would think it would be fine.

Someone says the maximum size I could put in my laptop is 120 GB. Dell rep via live chat says 100 GB. Does size of hard drive matter?

I am not sure about that - I have a 160 gb drive in my 600m and it reads it fine without any issues. About drive compatability, any ATA drive should work. Make sure that when you remove the defective drive, you carfeully remove the caddy and the connector pin from the hard drive. You will then need to plug the connector pin back into the new drive for it to be connected to the motherboard.
