    Hello,

Wife has the dell 600m laptop, loves it but 90% of the time she is stationary at her desk with it, when she does go mobile for work or play she has to unplug everything and its sort of a hassle she says.

So I was looking into dell part # 310-2913 Port Replicator and was wondering if you all could chime in good or bad, does this really work well and help alot for connecting all her things to it (external keyboard, mouse, printer hardwired ethernet) and allow her to just pick up and go and leave all those plugged in on her desk as easy and fast as it looks on the pictures for it?

Also can you do this (put it on or off the port replicator) while the laptop is powered on or must it be in the off position?

Lastly should I buy the power adaptor with it too (pa-10) or can I just use her laptops power adaptor (will it even fit) since 90% of the time and for all of her recharging purposes its just sitting on her desk. Will the laptop charge up while on the plugged in replicator which is powering the unit or does it have to be plugged in on its own without the replicator?

Sorry for the lame newbie questions, great little laptop she loves it, just would like to make life easier for her when shes ready to pick up and go (too many wires connected to it)... this seems like the answer, just wondered what real users experience with it, is it all that or are there quirks in using it like i am thinking we can use it mentioned above.

    Bill

Good questions. I'm hoping to get the similar replicator for the Latidude D series in the near future. I do think you need the AC adapter because it's a 90W... although I'm not sure what adapter comes w/ the 600m.

With most port replicators, it is better to connect and disconnect when the laptop is turned off, that would ensure a secure connection. At best, I would say to see if you can find the user guide for that model, that would be able to tell you that end.

As for ease of use, if she has a good deal to plug in and out, then a port replicator is not a bad idea. I used to use one with a laptop that I would borrow and it worked out well. I just had to remember to turn it on AFTER I connected it to the replicator.
