Hi, I know this has probably been asked a lot but I can't find it.

I'm deciding between the regular WXGA and the UltraSharp WSXGA+.

    I know the WXGA is 1280 X 800 and the WSXGA+ is 1680 X 1050.

I want to by the WSXGA+ because it is a higher qualtiy screen but being able to read the font is important to me. I will be watching DVD's too so I don't want something that is only for word processing/internet.

Does the 1680 x 1050 mean that is the highest resolution and I can make it smaller?

And if I can make it smaller, will it not look right on the widescreen?

    Thanks a lot,
    Mitch.

If text size is an issue then get the WXGA. I have the WSXGA+ and the text is small.

Can the WXGA play DVD's at all or is it really bad??

Also...is there anyway at all to enlarge the text?

Ok...but can I make the resolution on the SXGA+ smaller? Or does it only work at 1600 X whatever...

You people complain too much. I have the 6000d with 1680x1050 and it looks fine. If you are having a hard time reading text on it get your eyes checked.

Great comments, the forum is for help. If everybody had the knowledge there wouldn't be a need for the boards.

    Thanks for speaking up

    I got the WXGA.

Do you think it's gonna be alright for random DVD watching and overall regular use like internet, small games?

Is the WXGA screen really that bad...because I just made an order a few days ago for this notebook and I got the WXGA display...

I might have to change my order...ah crap.

I was worried about the size of the screen as I sometimes have problems reading things in my old age but I switched back to 96dpi and can easily read the font, though it is small and initially looks like it would be tough tp read. For me it isn't, must be the sharpness or something .

DVDs look great on the WXGA screen. Don't worry about it.

I have noticed that the screen has so much resolution that if the dvd is badly shot that the noise is actually visible on the screen! This is not true of all dvds though.

I got the WXGA too...I'm not worried about it.

A lot of people on here really do a lot of stuff with their computers and notice things a lot more.

I'm looking for a screen that will play DVD's well on the road..but it doesn't have to be as good as my actual DVD player and TV that I will use when I'm at home.

Because of that, I think the WXGA which still has a larger native resolution than I use normally will be perfectly acceptable and if you are in the same position I am, I think you'll agree.

I'll let you know when mine gets here.

Hey mitcher, lemme ask you something. I was looking at the shipping weight for my Dell 6000. It says 18 lbs. Now...I know that the 6000 will be about 7 lbs...but shipping weight being 18lbs according to UPS? I found that totally weird. If you've had your 6000 shipped already, do you also see an 18lbs weight on your shipment according to the provider?

I've got the WXGA, looks great, and is best for playing games ( since the x300 128MB ATI card can't handle anything higher than 1024x768) [ :D]

sounds to me like you don't need to spend the money on anything higher.

Oh and I watched the Incredibles on my laptop and it looked great too. [8D]

Question for somebody, I think heartofgold can answer it. If I purchase the WUXGA monitor and some programs are to small I can go into the settings and change them, correct? Will this wipe out the clarity of the screen? I know it will defeat the purpose of spending the extra monety for it, but if I need it for a graphics program I would have it.

    Thanks

    Yea, don't worry, I don't use 800 X 600.

    I'm used to 1024 X 768 so I'll be happy with it.

    Here's another question.

What does the "d" in I6000d mean?

Nowhere on my order does it ever say 6000d...but I do have the graphics card on my order.

Does dell not actually write that out?

In the small business section it seems to offer a better definition of what 6000 or 6000D means and it is dediated graghics. It drove me crazy once . I checked and I looked right now under the business section if you want to look!

    Karma,It'll Get You!

Thank you for the definitions...I just saw your post! I have not been on the board since yesterday and did not see it until now due to over 43 messages to go through. Sorry!
