Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me...

I just bought a dell i6000d and it is only a week old.
When scrolling up and down web pages, I am experiencing a high pitch whining noise. It comes from the left side of the computer and is very annoying. This happens with my USB wireless mouse using the wheel scrolling. I have read many threads about this subject but I can not find a solution to fix this problem. Can somebody please help me? thank you!

Thought you said the right side my bad... Yah the left side has the fan... and then the cd drive. Is it like a hissing sound normally heard in other electronics when electricity is going across something unshielded? I mean like the hissing noise you get from tvs or when other high power electronics are engaged...

It only makes this nice when you use the USB wireless mouse?

I am not going to get the USB wireless mouse then.

The fan is in the upper left corner. Could it be that?

This is most probably the same noise as on other Pentium M laptops. It can be fixed by switching on bluetooth at all times or only running the CPU at lower speed. See this thread for a good workaround: http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16307

I will probably report this to Dell support since I have the same problem with my Dell D610, but I don't think Dell will fix it if it's hard to fix. HP might fix it for their laptops but Dell is a low-cost brand and you get what you pay for.

I had this same problem with a Latitude D610. The high pitch would come from the upper left of the keyboard and the upper right.

It would occur after my laptop was placed in suspend or hibernate. I was able to isolate the problem by toggling the fn and F2(wireless) key on and off. This made the high pitch disappear.

I have read several posts about changing the USB Root Hub setting in Device Manager to "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power".

I noticed from the beginning however, that my bluetooth icon was not active in the system tray.

I went to Dell's site and downloaded the Bluetooth file for the D610. I ran it and it removed the Bluetooth. I thought "what the ??". So I went the the directory where I downloaded the file and ran the setup. Now it shows the active Bluetooth icon in the system tray.

I can now shut the lid on the laptop and when I resume there is absolutely no whine at all.

I hope this helps others and would appreciate hearing any feedback.

    Good Luck...
