for Dell 6000 owners .. does anyone have issues with the touchpad buttons? .. I just got mine about a week about .. and the buttons feel very clunky .. like they're going to go bad .. with my DV1000, I had a situation where they were stiff .. but got better with time .. any thoughts on the 6000's touchpad buttons?! ..

Can you define what you mean by clunky?

My laptop uses the same touchpad as yours, and I still have problems with keys (laptop is 9 months old). They are pretty stiff still, and overall they aren't very comfortable.

by clunky .. I mean they make this "clunk .. clunk" noise whenever they're used .. it just feels they're going to fall apart .. or collapse .. they don't feel stiff .. just feel like they're going to come off, or become loose or something .. the DV1000, like I said, had really stiff keys .. but they became better with use ..

also the actual touch-pad isn't the most responsive .. plus you have to use the center of the pad .. I'm used to using the bottom of the touchpad .. since I keep my wrist on the desk and not on the laptop .. is there a way of turning the horizontal scroll/arrow thingy off .. I really only need the vertical one .. that way I'd get a little more space towards the bottom of the touchpad ..

(aren't these forums, the best?! .. it's so nice to find a community of notebook "freaks", like myself! .. people, ordinarily, make fun of me for having two laptops .. but I'm sure the notebook loving people here would understand! .. :) .. speaking of having two notebooks, is there a way to sync the both of them .. in terms of files, and esp. the "my documents" folder .. without having to copy files back and forth over the network?!) ..

LOL, I can't make any jokes -- i have 5 computers, all in my bedroom at the moment.

For the syncing question, check out this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=25714

I've never used any of the suggestions, but its worth a try.

I've never notice any weird noise coming from mine. They are very loud, but don't act like the way you describe. If you are concerned, you might contact dell and see about getting the touchpad/keys replaced. To adjust the touchpad settings, go to control panel --> mouse, and you can change it where the touchpad respone and scroll pads are more to your liking.

I haven't noticed any problems with my touchpad at all. The buttons are kind of loud, though. I also have a wirless pocket mouse but I haven't been using it lately.

Wish I had 5 computers.. I could really use a linux machine for testing stuff.

I've managed with 3 operating systems on one machine at once (XP Pro, Mandriva Linux, and Win2000) but it doesn't really help me if I want to keep a linux server running while developing on a Windows environment.. and now that I have my notebook I'd like to have Windows running for file serving...

I guess it doesn't really matter because I haven't used linux since July.
