    Hey Guys

    So My Dell 1555 has an option to put a WWAN Card in it. Now my questions are

    1) WWAN is basically stick a SIM card in the back of my battery and browse internet right??

    2) Is WWAN GPS enabled as well? So Can i use it with some special software (which one??) to locate my position and probably give direction??

    3) What else is WWAN benefit ??

    4) On Ebay there are two distinct Models
    * Dell 5530 WWAN Ericsson F3507G
    * Dell 5530 WWAN Ericsson KM266

    Does anyone have an idea what's the diff and obviously what is better??

    5) Any other model suggested which might work with Dell 1555?? are the lower ones like GTM378 or 5500 or 5520 good enough??

    Thanks A lot in advance :D

    1. It is an expansion card that you slip into your express slot, which is typically on the side of laptops. Instead of using a wifi connection to transfer data, is uses cellphone towers which allows you to connect to the internet wherever you get cellphone service. Though at a cost; The speeds aren't amazing and you have to pay a monthly fee to your provider.

    2. I believe the gps varies from providers, though it would make sense to have gps as it is based off of cellphone waves.

    3. Being able to use your laptop basically anywhere is a plus, right?

    5. you'd need to look to your expresscard size, 15inch+ laptops usually use a 54 express size.

    I know that the size fits, so I am not worried about that..

    Can anyone please probably tell me the difference in the models and/or anything else I should know.

    Dell 5520 is what was shipped with the M1330, Basically is a HSDPA (UMTS/GPRS) Data Card that uses The inbuild sim card slot, and supports 3.6mbps down and i believe half a meg up

    The 5520 is basically a Rebagged Novotel EU870, There is a firmware that is floating about that allows 7.2mps down.

    Be ward i flashed the firmware and it the card didnt come out alive lol :p

    Now the Dell5530 is a rebagged Ericsson f3507g, supporting HSDPA 7.2mbs and 2mbs up HSUPA

    Other models i have no idea about.

    Has anyone had any luck with the 7.2mbps firmware on the 5520? I did the upgrade but things didn't work out. I was lucky that I was able to use the vodafone firmware to downgrade and get things working again.

    That wouldn't be GPS (Global Positioning System) as you'd need the satellites for that to be the case. This would end up being Cell Phone Tower Triangulation (usually uses signal strength to three or more cell towers to judge distance).

    You can also use WiFi triangulation which attempts the same thing using WiFi.
