A friend gave me his old Dell 5100, he had no clue if it worked or not. So I got it home, and when I pressed the power button, the orange battery light flashed 10 times. I thought, OK, so the battery must be dead. I plugged it in, and I pressed the power button and it was just solid orange. Without a battery, and plugged in, pressing the power button does nothing. What is wrong here? It the battery-charging-board-thing dead? Thanks!

The orange light isn't telling you that the battery is dead (normally that is what it stands for), but that is an indicator that something more serious is wrong. I'll try to find the light codes that dell uses.

Is this laptop still covered by warranty?

Warranty? I highly doubt it! I think I will try to contact tech support though and see what they say too.

EDIT: Never mind, I got it fixed! It was just a bad battery. The friend I got it from had ordered like 4 of the same model, and I tried a battery from one of the others and it worked. Only now it thinks the ac adaptor is a 50w and not a 90w. But it is a 90w. From one problem to another, haha.
