anyone here has the priviledge of owning the largest 320GB hard disk that ships together with your new shiny dell laptop pc?

mind to share with us, what is the brand of the hard disk, model and does it have free fall sensor?

also give us some insights on the performance compared to other hard drives. cheers

Although its the biggest drive you can get, the performance isnt going to be the best, since its not 7200rpm, its almost definately 5400rpm. The largest 7200rpm 2.5" drive you can currently get is a 200GB.

Personally I prefer the 7200rpm drives so will be getting two of them to put in a RAID array, to total 400GB, which is more then enough for me. The only reason for getting the 350GB in my opinion, is if you really need to make sue of all the space, otherwise I would recommend the 200GB 7200rpm.....

I agree, 5400rpm is definately going to be slower than 7200rpm. I have an inspiron 1520, so no luck for me using two hard drives at one. i noticed you have M1730, so you wont really have to sacrifice performance for the extra space.

looks like there arent many owners of 320GB now.. and the only clue i have regarding dell's 320GB hdd source is only samsung, but too bad samsung seems kinda shy when it comes to advertising their product (no info on 320GB in their website, at least not in us or uk site)

i thought 320GB was huge, now samsung come up with 500GB without adding extra thickness!

320GB owner here, I think mine is a Samsung also, I'll check when I get home. Was thinking about getting a portable USB external HD, but I hate having my USB connections taken up.

I'm sure it's slower than a 7200rpm, but I figure I'd try and minimize as much heat/consumption as possible.

This samsung Drive is using Perpendicular technology with the denser platers, I think this drive will be close to the 200GB 7200RPM drive in performance.

true.. 5400rpm laptop drives are more and more entering the performance domain of 7200rpm,

im really curious about the samsung drive included in dell systems. we know very little about it, it is not even advertised in samsung's webpage, but already sold in some retailer's stores. my dell laptop with 320GB is coming soon, cant wait to try it out. maybe some of you here can give me a head start. anything about your 320GB you can share it here.

i will get mine in 2 weeks time i think, looks like you are going to beat me to trying it out., ;)

by the way, i've seen somewhere stating that this samsung 320GB drive dell is shipping with their system actually scored 5.3 on vista WEI. that's 0.1 point short of a 5.4 on 7200rpm drive! can anyone confirm this?

    Hey!

One question, in my 1520 I only have 160gb hard drive, is it possible to upgrade it to those on newegg.com??

If so, Can someone please tell me what 250gb hard drive will work in it?

    Cheers,

    Matt

any standard sized 2.5" SATA hard drive would work on your laptop.

My friend has one, it's samsung and slow as molasses. He is exchanging for a smaller 7200 rpm. I would suggest that as well.
