I've heard talk about this policy, but I can't find any info on the website. Do they honor it? Is it a "if you don't like it bring it back" policy or a "must be unused" policy.
Thanks

Satisfaction guaranteed. Period. You may open the box. You may use the machine.

If I understand it correctly it's a 21-day policy, effective the date you are invoiced for the laptop. I returned my M1210 due to several consecutive issues with the equipment and the manager I spoke to also stated they are no longer doing restocking fees for any returns within the 21-day window. So that does give you a little peace of mind to literally 'try as you buy'. Dell does have non-notebook equipment that allows 30 days to return, but you can read more up on their policy here.
-
I believe its 30 days for Vostro
-
from when you invoiced the laptop? what time is that exactly? With Vostros not shipping for weeks right now, when does that 30 days start? when they box it with the label? or when you first place the order?
-
Invoice means when you receive the bill, or are charged on your credit card.
-
And you are charged when they ship it. They place a hold on your card until then.

Total Satisfaction is 30 days/no restocking fee/they send you the shipping labels.
"Total Satisfaction" Return Policy (U.S. and Canada Only)
If you are an end-user customer who bought new products directly from a Dell company, you may return them to Dell within 30 days of the date of invoice for a refund or credit of the product purchase price. If you are an end-user customer who bought reconditioned or refurbished products from a Dell company, you may return them to Dell within 14 days of the date of invoice for a refund or credit of the product purchase price. In either case, the refund or credit will not include any shipping and handling charges shown on your invoice. If you are an organization that bought the products under a written agreement with Dell, the agreement may contain different terms for the return of products than specified by this policy.
To return products, you must call Dell Customer Service to receive a Credit Return Authorization Number. Refer to "Getting Help" in your Installation and Troubleshooting Guide to find the appropriate telephone number for obtaining customer assistance. To expedite the processing of your refund or credit, Dell expects you to return the products to Dell in their original packaging within five days of the date that Dell issues the Credit Return Authorization Number. You must also prepay shipping charges and insure the shipment or accept the risk of loss or damage during shipment. You may return software for refund or credit only if the sealed package containing the diskette(s) or CD(s) is unopened. Returned products must be in as-new condition, and all of the manuals, diskette(s), CD(s), power cables, and other items included with a product must be returned with it. For customers who want to return, for refund or credit only, either applications software or an operating system that has been installed by Dell, the whole system must be returned, along with any media and documentation that may have been included in the original shipment.
This "Total Satisfaction" Return Policy does not apply to DellWare products, which may be returned under DellWare's then-current return policy. In addition, reconditioned parts purchased through Dell Spare Parts Sales in Canada are non-returnable. -
Thanks Flamenko, yours was the post I saw a day or two ago.

Just for info. This exact writeup is in the warranty paper that comes with each and every Dell system. I dont know why it always causes so much confusion. I can understand why dell doesnt advertise it.
Simply, you can buy a system and decide you dont like it on day 29. Call, get the authorization number and get a full refund. They even email you the shipping slips and schedule pickup.
How can you go wrong with that? -
On the Dell Canada website it says can be returned within thirty days but "the refund or credit will not include any shipping and handling charges shown on your invoice and will be subject to a 15% restocking fee, unless otherwise prohibited by law". So is it only in the US that there is no restocking fee?
-
That does not pertain to the total satisfaction policy. It is as i had cut and pasted.
There is no shipping fee nor is there a restocking fee.
Everyone always mixes these up. Although different warranties overlap, you need to follow each specifically.
Total satisfaction is spelled out very simply ... 100 percent refund -
I was just wondering because that statement I quoted was from Dell Canada's Total Satisfaction Policy.

Hi,
From the statements made so far I could get the impression that this 21 (or 30) days return policy is only valid for US and Canada. But how about the rest of the world, e.g. in Asia?
Regards, Mike -
Yes this specific policy is ONLY for US and Canada. As for the rest of the world, you willl have to check on your respective sites under warranties.
