Does everyone here usually get the 3-year warranty or settle with the standard 1-year?

Also in general, what are the benefits or pitfalls of the Dell Care Plus system?

I also have the same question. I don't know whether a 1-year warranty is enough for a notebook in general. But I have placed an order with just the 1-year one because I can extend it later.

well one should always opt for an extended warranty at the time of placing the order....otherwise after your warranty expires you have to pay a hefty amount to get it renewed.

With a 3-year CompleteCare warranty, you're covered for pretty much anything that happens to the laptop. So if you were to drop it on the day before the warranty expired (accidentally, of course), you'd get a shiny new laptop with equal or greater specs.

    Accidentally, of course.

for me...I take good care of my laptop and cant see myself dropping it or spilling on it. I saved my $140 CDN and got the 3year return to depot. It covers every hardware issue except accidental damage, pretty much all i need :).

i am not sure. i have simply opted for 1 year complete cover as the 3 year was way beyond my budget.

Well, you can tack on time to warranties usually. They'll go 5 years max before they stop servicing an item. This may vary for servers.

When our warranties at work expire, we get a letter in the mail and offer us renewal.

one year is fine... you laptop will be completely out of date in 2 two 2.5 years and you'll be looking to replace it. 3-4 years is completely useless and you might as well save the money for ANOTHER LAPTOP! at least it'll be newer then.

lol new every 2 if they do that.... I wouldn't mind getting a brand new current gen of the time laptop every 2-3 years for a couple hundred bucks.

I was unable to afford any warranty upgrade when I purchased my machine. So I am hoping that what I have heard is true, and they will send me a card offering me a deal to get the extended warranty. If I can swing it, I would get the complete care including the accidental. With me being in school and toting this around with me, I feel it's worth it. I just couldn't swing it at order time.

Depends on the user. I'm perfectly content to use a 6 year old thinkpad. CPU is not used much. RAM can easily be upgraded.
