In my lattaatude 830 I have a:
256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M Latitude D830 video card
I dont think it will power the 30 inch correct?
I cheaped out and bought the 22 inch one and it is not ultrasharp and it is a pain in the ass to view colors and such...
Do I have to go 24? I use a docking station now to a 24 and a 19

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Depends on the input and resolution of your monitor I suppose... Nvidia's site claims that the 140M has a "Max. Digital Display Support" of 1600 x 1200 and a "Max. Analog Display Support" of 2048 x 1536, so you can interpret that how you will...

not sure what that means...
I know the 30 needs a dual dvi card....
The 24 is supposes to be 1920x1200.... i believe that will work fine for the 24...????? -
What he meant to say was if you use the blue vga port to connect to the LCD your max resolution will be 2048*1536. If you use the white dvi port instead then your max resolution will be 1600*1200.
-
ahh ok, so I can put the 24 on the main vga port.. and then my 19 on the dvi connnection..
So the 24 will work fine, but the 30 will need a better video card eh.....right? -
any coupons floating around on this?
-
Yes the 24" will work fine, but if you want to use the 30" LCD you need a new computer, not new video card.
-
gotcha.. the xps line laptops??? unfortunately they are not dockable.
I suppose I would just use my desktop for it instead. -
Well the larger XPS, even the inspiron 1520 have a much better gpu in the 8600GT. Dunno about the specs on the mobile card, but my desktop 8600GT has a max resolution of about 2500*1900 thru a dual dvi connection.

Can i plug the 24 dell into the DVI port? Will it lose resolution?
-
Well you just won't be able to run it at it's native resolution, which will look blocky and not smooth.
Dell 24 or 30 with my lattatidue 830???
