of course, i always compared 650m and 750m both with GDDR5... you can reach 750m level with slight OC on 650m GDDR5.
750m is basically rebranded 660m.
I would wait for 760m, if i would like to replace my 7720se.
-
you can "overclock" a old Ford to a super fast Porsche (but it runs hot like hell and dont stay in a perfect condition long time.....
the GT750M GDDR5 is about 20-25% faster.......im not saying its a GTX TITAN...........but its a very nice card, for medium end laptops.
ps.....20-25% extra power in BF3 (or some other high shader game) is welcome -
Wrong analogy its the same exact core, GK107. Of course it might be easier to overclock thanks to higher default clocks (no need to mess with the +135MHz limit) and the overclocking potential can be different for every single chip, even of the same branding and default values. Either way itd be as pointless as upgrading from GT 650M to GTX660M without changing anything else. Not to mention that if you want a laptop for gaming then you should get a different model.

It appears that Dell's engineers finally sorted GPU boost issue... by disabling it completely in BIOS A13. Updated to that a few weeks ago and never done any tests at the time, but today I noticed that whatever trick I tried (99% CPU, unplugging power adapter, reinstalling drivers etc), the core frequency stayed at 745 MHz. Reverting back to A12 sorted the issue: the boost works fine. Additionally, with the newest nVidia drivers (314.22) it's not necessary to cripple the CPU with 99% setting as GPU does not seem to be affected by CPU boost. GPU remains fully overclockable and will boost to 835 MHz when necessary. However, the issue with unplugging power adapter remains unsolved.

Iam using Bios A13 and GPU boost is still there (issues included) .. But for example Lenovo disabled CPU&GPU boost on some of their products...

try take out one disk if you´re using two and re-roll to A11 BIOS.. Disappearing GPU is known problem (Dell is working on this fix). -
Hi guys, just saying hello.
I've ordered an Inspiron 17 R SE 7720 yesterday as an upgrade from my Dell XPS L501x which has been a great laptop but I have decided to move on as it is nearly 3 years old now.
Looks like this is the main Inspiron 7720 thread so I will stick around for info and share my own experiences when the laptop arrives.
-
Is the 17R worth it?
Dont want to spend more for SE. -
Has anyone experienced with the DC power jack/port becoming less responsive over use? I've noticed I've had to re-adjust my power cord with the 7720 a few times to get it to charge.
-
Can anyone here help out to tell if there is possibly any way to enable single finger scrolling on the ALPS touchpad on 7720 ?

Hi Guys
greetings to u all from India!
this is my first post so please be kind to me - as i am not as technical as you guys are as most of the discussion is in regards to CPU/GPU overclocking of both etc for diff. games
I just purchased this laptop however mine came with i5-3210 CPU with optimus enabled
info here : Dell Inspiron 17R Turbo Laptop - Performance Laptops from Dell
Only exception in my laptop being the FULL HD anti-glare [non-3D] screen the laptop came with - rest all the same as given in the link.
So far so good - i have now started testing it's features
I already have the Asus RoG 3D version - G74sx - 3d version so i purchased this for my DTR needs [watching movies, video encoding, etc]
I have uninstalled win 8 and clean installed win 7 hp service pack 1 with all drivers installed ok
I have Sony HMZ-t2 which i want to use with this [inspiron 17r] for watching blu-ray 3D iso from my collection using the virtual clone drive mounting.
To my shock - HMZ-T2 sony personal 3d viewer is identified as 2D monitor - not the 3D one ! - dunno if it's the 650m drivers [driver ver.314.22] or optimus but i cannot get the 3d iso to be played back in 3d using the TMT v5
Has anybody with the same model as i have tried watching 3d movies from this to a 3dTV ?
any help please! -
-
thanks for the reply so disappointing !
Now my next query - How do i watch blu-ray 3D iso on this laptop and output to 3d TV - any softwares etc ?
any suggestions please ? -
-
could be the optimus, since optimus and 3d do not mix.
Try to have the laptop runing the nvidia card all the time or try to run on nvidia the app you use to see 3d movies. -
-
Collecting my laptop from UPS depot today, as there was nobody to sign for it. Can't wait! :
-
congrats..............now you just have to do a clean install of windows..........and off you go
(you dont have to do it....but it makes your PC faster & better) -
I don't see why i cant watch 3d movies or 3d youtube when i can play games in 3d.
There are instructions on other forums to turn on the setting from the nvidia control but i don't have this setting.
Do i need nvidia 3DTV play to watch 3d movies/youtube on my laptop? My model came with the vision 2 3d glasses and 120hz screen. -

What is the max memory speed on the Inspiron 17R SE?
Can it handle 1866 memory?
I got the i5-3230 processor.
Think I found the answer on intel page. Max speed is 1600Mhz for i5-3230 and i7-3630 -
every Intel CPU with the FCPGA988 socket fits.............so in your mind....the 3230 fits
just go with the 1600mhz speed....trying higher speed often gives conflict -
Bios A14 has been released. GPU boost issue wasn´t solved in this release....

Just wondering, can anyone tell me what their HDD temps and Mobo temps are when gaming (with something like HWmonitor?)
I noticed my mobo temperatures (TZ00 and TZ01) get to 80C, so I'm wondering if that's normal - it seems pretty high to me
Also my HDD is getting to 57C after heavy gaming, does anyone else see these kind of temperatures? -
-
A14 what are the changes ? Anything worth updating for from A03 ?
-
-
Anyone else having update trouble with win 8?
Still getting error 216, just as with A13. -
another reason why using windows 7 SP.1.
i waiting for windows 9 (a shorter version of windows 8 but without Metro and not optimized for Touch screens)
-----------------------------
SHASHANK_BEST
............i would stay with A03.......its very good enough. (for me it works flawless) -
I have done a clean install of Windows 8 Pro though.
Would not want to use 7 at home again. 8 is great once you get used to it and it is fast! -
the new bios a14 is perfect. GPU in games goes up to 835, before on a13 i was autounderclocked 745, and even in idle fans are almost silent
-
-
well....i tell you this................im not going to jeopardy a new BIOS just because one guy tells you everything is heaven.
if all people confirm....then i might flash the BIOS -
this bios is great well done before they improve its like drive in bmw with limit speed now is work great i think they need to improve more but for now is great
-
i dont beleive the reasult i see from fc3
-
what results ???
-
the speed is 835 mhz without reduce
-
if you want mod bios i can give you link work only 3610qm let you see hideen function
-
Please confirm on how a14 BIOS is actually ?
-
how much we wait for get this reasult why they dont make this work in the begining its just bios not space project my mod bios is even work alot better
