Ok guys, problem here. I feel like it may have come up before so if anyone has a solution that would be great.

I tried out a BluRay movie the other day for the first time in whatever BluRay player software comes with the laptop. (Cyberlink?) But the audio was terrible. Crackling really badly. I feel like someone before suggested removing McAfee but that's long gone so its not that. Any solutions? Music in iTunes and 1080p BR rips in VLC sound fine so it's not my speakers as far as I can tell

Question for 17R SE owners with a single HDD. Did you get the laptop with a caddy in the empty drive bay?

Latest 306.23(whql) is Pretty bad when it comes to gaming.

Same server. Same ping. Same settings in bf3 gives me about 5-7 less FPS against The Beta driver.

It not just me who see this. Google on it and you see more people with same crappy fps.

I went back to Beta driver in a heart beat.

Apparently I wasn't trying to overclock the GPU properly. Could someone please explain how to do so on this particular system, please?

MSI afterburner is probably one of the easiest OC tools, just make sure you have an 30x driver installed 2xx doesn't work properly. With MSI afterburner you can overclock core up to +135MHz and memory well beyond what it's capable of, I suggest stopping at 2400MHz memory speed.

MSI afterburner works good. But the boost bug kills it. For no apparent reason the core locks to a maximum of 745 Mhz. It can be underclocked but not overclocked. But note that the memory can still be overclocked. Only fix for me is to flash the BIOS again which restores the boost and OC.

Anybody has a workaround for this without flashing the bios?

It drives me crazy every time this happens.

    How about Nvidia Inspector?
I haven't tried it yet, but that's mainly because i didn't exactly know how it works.

PowerDVD 9.6 shows no updates when I click the button suggested by KSMB. Perhaps since my laptop is a little newer it has the latest version already. The crackling sound is still present though. Any other ideas?

Same with Nvidia Inspector too. The problem is not with any tool. Its a problem with the card BIOS i guess. I have updated to the A08 BIOS version and the drivers are 306.XX

Like i said before. Erase idt driver. Reboot. Reinstall latest idt driver.

If that not work. Erase crappy Mcafee anti virus. It cleared by many 7720 owners creating a bug in the cpu which freeze a split second causing sound issues and weird mouse issues.

I'll give that a try. Should I have the driver downloaded beforehand? I imagine that IDT will be gone from device manager when I uninstall the driver? Maybe if I scan for hardware changes?

I just wanna know what will happen before I do it so I don't run into any stupid problems

I bet you have latest idt driver allready. ( there is just one idt driver for the moment). why it often works is because you clean up the fabric installation of the sound driver. Sound drivers is quite sensitive

I noticed the speaker crackling as well, and McAfee isn't installed. I finally got a new SSD for my Studio 1747 (replaced the faulty OCZ drive with a Samsung 830 Series). The screen, touch pad, and speakers are undeniably better on the 1747. I'm looking forward to returning this 17R SE to Dell. Only thing I like more about it are the keyboard, GPU, and processor. Guess I'll hold out a bit longer to upgrade.

Sh*t, definitely a problem with sound. I uninstalled IDT drivers, deleted the driver, restarted the PC, downloaded the IDT driver from Dell, installed it and restarted. The windows startup sound sounded horrible. Really bad crackling. Now that I think of it I had noticed sound crackling before, other than just in BluRay playback, when playing Black Mesa the sound seemed a bit dodgy but I put that down to the game.It happens with both with headphones and laptop speakers.

I had problems with sound too. I completely deleted the IDT driver, and when I restarted the PC, Windows downloaded "High definition audio driver", and all my problems are gone. You should try that ;)

I noticed that it did that alright but I would rather a fix with the proper drivers than the generic windows ones. I wonder what I'd be missing out on with the generic ones

Hey After I have been RIPPED OFF BY UKLAPTOPS. For a 7720 Backlit keyboard.

I still need one, anyone find anything? I have had a look on ebay, but dell still have not confirmed that the L702 will fit and after not trusting UK Laptops and them telling me it will, I dont want to buy one on ebay only to find it wont fit and I have lost 50.00

Anyone help with a backlit UK Keyboard.

DO NOT BUY FROM UK LAPTOPS, They have strung me along for over 2 weeks, no email updates, and everytime I call they say its coming, or they will chase up but they never do, demanded a refund then they said they would send me a conf email of the refund, but never did.. 10 calls, and still nothing. Have had to ask my bank to demand the money back for me.

You have to unplug your laptop and take out the battery for a minute. Then put it back in, plug in the power cord and boot it up to reset the boost clock. Every time you run it on battery you will have to do the same thing. I keep mine plugged in and have no problem with the boost (I even OCed mine) with the CPU set to 99%.

ps..i hardly recommend 306.02........306.23 is not very good in some games (otherwise its good)

    Hi,

I'm willing to buy a Dell Inspiron 17r Special Edition laptop from USA .
The config that I'm willing to buy is listed here :-

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

I intend to take this laptop to India and use it there .

So I want to know whether I'll get the warranty coverage for this laptop in India after tag transfer .?

For your information , the Inspiron 17r model that is available in India :-

Inspiron 17R Special Edition Laptop Details | Dell India

    has some components different .

    For example :

    S/No. Component

    1). CPU

    My Configuration from US :-
    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM processor (6M Cache, up to 3.3 GHz)

    Configuration available in India:-
    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM processor (6M Cache, up to 3.4 GHz)

    2). Video Card

    My Configuration from US :-
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GDDR5 2GB

    Configuration available in India:-
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GDDR5 2GB (3D)

    3). Display

    My Configuration from US :-

17.3" Full High Definition (1080p) LED Display with Anti-Glare

    Configuration available in India:-

    17.3" 3D Capable FHD WLED True-Life (1920x1080)

    4). Optical Drive

    My Configuration from US :-

8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)

    Configuration available in India:-

12.7" Tray Load Blu-ray (BD) Combo Drive (BD Read Only)

So since components are different , will Dell India import the appropriate parts from USA .??

Can someone please clarify how will the warranty coverage be done because I'm planning to buy Extended warranty in the US , which would only be worth it if I'm assured that i get complete warranty coverage for my laptop here in India .

Does anyone know if you can add a better wireless card? It seems to strugle with 1080p.

I think this is only a N150 card in it, can you add a N300?

Also while I got your ear, which blu-ray players are you guys buying for this lappy, might add one.

    Thanks
