If i buy 2 GB ram, is it easy to buy extra ram myself and put it in? I am not experienced at all in stuff like this.

Also for a comp like this will the extra ram make much of a difference?

Replacing/upgrading RAM is a very easy process. However, 2GB is more than sufficient for just about any task.

It is easy to add ram to the memory slot underneath the 1720.
It is a little more difficult to add memory to the memory slot under
the keyboard since you have to remove the keyboard to get to the
    slot.

Via the link above, you can see how easy it is to remove/add ram.
If you are worried, just buy a 2GB sodimm and place it in the bottom
slot to give you 2.5 or more GB of ram (depending on what you currently
    have in your system).

I can not vouch for the performance as 2GB has been sufficient
for my needs under both Vista and XP.

Which tasks would cause a problem with only 2GB of RAM?
Games? Virtual machines? Photo or video editing? Something else?
