I just purchased a fully loaded 1720- minus the imbuilt Sprint WAN technology. Can I upgrade in the future? Is it truely built-in the laptop, or is it what they claim to be an ExpressCard? How would I go about activating it at a Sprint store?

The Dell one is built in the laptop. From what the rep told me, if you change carriers, you can remove it easily and put the other carrier's card in. I decided to not get the built in card and am going to go with the Merlin™ EX720 by Novatel Wireless. It's available on the Sprint site and goes in the Expresscard slot. You can also get more info on it at sprintusers.com

You can activate it at a Sprint store or over the phone. All you need is the ESN number which should pop up on the utility. Read your manual (under WAN) for more details!
