I've ordered an Inspiron 1720 with one 250GB hard drive and want to buy an external drive for saving video data from my firewire camcorder. When I placed the order, 7200 rpm hdds were not an option, was specifically told that I couldn't get that.

I like the Western Digital external HDDS and am wondering if I can somehow transfer data fast enough if I buy the USB+Firewire 400 version. Since my firewire cable from the camcorder will be taking up the laptop's firewire port, should I instead buy the USB/e-Sata version? OTOH, can I plug directly to the external drive via firewire and have data saved there?

I'm quite confused about all of this, even in how I'll manage to interface external e-SATA. Any thoughts?
