I am thinking of purchasing the 1705 notebook but unsure of which size screen to get. I am planning on getting the 7900GS w/ T7200. I intend to do gaming such as Oblivion and NWN2 and web surfing on the notebook. I will not be doing any photoshop work. I have seen a 15.4 notebook where the native resolution is 1680x1050 and even with fonts set to large and DPI increased to 120 it is almost unusable to me. Everything is just way too small. I have
seen the WUXGA+ screen and that seems even smaller than the 15.4 screen. I have never seen the 1440x900 screen and am not sure how it will look.

However when I was at the dell kiosk stand in the mall, I was not allowed( even the man there was blocked out) to change anything on it: DPI, font size, and most important the resolution to see how well it would scale to 1680x1050. Other manufacturers offer 1680 on the 17 inch. It is too bad Dell doesn't. Has anyone changed the resolution to 1680x1050 and how well does it look if used with increased DPI and large fonts. If I was to lower to 1440x900 on the WUXGA+ screen, I think I would not need to change the DPI. Are both those resolutions still clear and easy to read or will it be very pixellated.

In windows its highly inadvisable to run out of native resolution, text and images will look fuzzy and not as clear as they should be, from your post I think you should go with 1440x900, text will be larger, and most games(not all) will be playable at high settings at your native res, gaming out of native res isnt that bad, but its always nice to do so when you can.

I have seen some say that they were sorry that they got the 1440x900 screen which is why I wanted to know if I was better off lowering the resolution on what seems to be the better screen. I know native resolution is better but I really don't see that much of a difference lowering it slightly on my desktop LCD if I maintain the same aspect ratio.
