There is nothing more you can do i'm afraid. Sounds like you have done everything... turning it right down and as you say, adjusting the gamma.

The screen is v.bright even on the lowest settings, fortunately it doesn't effect me but the highest setting does. Its just too bright unless your outdoors.

You may have to resort to third party accessories. Keep in mind that your Dell warranty probably does not cover these:

Sure, although you'll need to buy an inverter with it as well. CCFL displays require one, LED displays do not.

Actually, for that matter, what resolution is your LED display? I have the CCFL on my Studio 1535, 1280x800. Perhaps we could arrange a trade. I've been looking at LED displays for some time. :p

Never met anyone who actually prefers CCFL to LED, but hey - your loss can be my gain. :p Interested in trading?

I have my XPS1530 sits side by with Latitude 6400. Latitude has LED while XPS has ccfl. I don't see much different in term of picture quality. The brightness is very close to each other too. I think LED is over hype in this forum.

the main thing is white colours. they make me dizzy and strain my eyes deeply. will a ccfl just plug in as long as there is an inverter?

LED uses less power=longer battery life over old-school CCFL and CCFL screen will be dim and yellow long before LED's wear out.
    Way Overhyped...lol ;)

Well, I agree with less power and longer battery light, but I am talking about the picture quality here. The different is less than 5% in my opinion, and it is varied depend on the panel too.

I don't know about dimming because I see a lot of old LCD pannels that look fine to me. Yes, I do see some panels especially notebook that dims, but it is old like 6-7 years old. By the way, if I get a new laptop, I would get LED because it is a new technology, but I would not cry over LED screen if my laptop is still good.

    Are you agree with me?

For the most part, yes. You'll have to disassemble 90% of the notebook, remove the antenna cables, and remove the entire display panel from the hinges. Then you'll have to take the display panel apart to remove the display, put the CCFL one in its place, and install the inverter below.

    LED>CCFL
To me there is a HUGE difference...2 year old 1420 w/a CCFL looks sooo dim & yellow next to my newer 1440x900 LED...no comparison.
Battery life is just a bonus.

You should. At least get a 1440x900, otherwise the combination of the LED's and blurriness of the 1280 screen will give anyone a headache. Get a better LED screen.
