    Hey Cats,

I did some searching, but couldn't find anything directly related to this problem.

Basically -- salesmen sold me on the the "this dell has a blu-ray in it", and i'd recently upgraded to an HDMI setup for my home theater, so i though -- why the hell not.

I've never had blu-ray before, so i only have one disk - Wall-E -, and well, it won't play.

As far as i can tell -- my dell has no idea that i've just fed it a blu-ray.

What' the deuce? Does this peice of need to go back?

First make sure your whether or not your notebook actually has a Bluray player. Download and run Nero Infotool (it is a free tool developed by the same people who makes the popular CD/DVD burning program : Nero). You should see green check mark for BD read. This is how it looks in mine (no Bluray support therefore all red crosses for BD)

    Wow, quick responses.

The nero tool has 4 check boxes in the read column of the BD drive area. So yes, at least it has a drive. however, it is saying that no disk in inserted, and WALL-E is definatly lodged in it's obstinate slot.

The cyberlink software is claiming that i have a

yes, i've installed software from DVD's with it. Think it's the disk? I don't exactly have a "control" as i only have the one blu-ray -- however, i'm not super keen on dropping another 35$ on non-returnable media.

also, the media buttons light up when i touch them --- but i've never seen them actually DO anything. the only way i can eject a disk is fn+f10. Do you have to somehow enable them? Mabey this unit is bunk.

What software are you using to play the movies? Usually base DVD applications don't support blu-ray, though they typically bundle a "special edition" version that will for example playback blu-ray but only in stereo, not 5.1

I believe you have to use mediadirect to play blurays on a dell notebook, unless you install a different bluray compatible playback software.
