So my 1325 went for a ride...long story short it ended up on the floor about a 4 foot fall. Only damage is to the d/c power port. The port itself is not loose. There are what looks like cooper pins inside the port that are bent. The power cord now falls out, does not sit in place. Even more odd is the port still works in that I have power however the battery will not charge. Get that 65 watt error issue on reboot. What should I do?

I have tried to straighten out the pins but to be honest i have never seen pins in a dc port, just the one pin in the power cord to port... almost like mystery pins.

Have considered super gluing power cable in place but wondering if there is another answer?

Bare in mind I am a Paramedic Firefighter / BJJ Fighter so I am super dumb when it comes to computers.

    Thanks all.

I'd have to go with either the Power Port is damaged or your Power adapter is damaged.

If its the Power Port then Mother Board repair will be needed.

The Power Adapter is the easiest, cheapest and hopefully THE part you will have to replace. These can be bought for around 25 dollars off ebay.

    However, since you say,

this leads me to lean more toward the Power Port on the Mother Board is going to be the problem, judging from a past experience almost exactly as you describe.

    Best of luck to you!

I do NOT recommend power adapters bought off Ebay unless confirmed Dell OEM AC adapters. Those cheapo adapters burn out fast or fry your laptop.

I would not modify the power connector unless you know what you are doing. In fact if you keep on powering it you MAY short your motherboard. Find a reputable shop that will do board level repair, they will desolder the damaged DC input jack and resolder on a new one.

    Thanks all!

Here is a question and I don't dare call Dell lol.

If I were to buy a docking station, could that then be used to power and charge the battery through the usb port?

Only if it's a Dell docking station, and they don't make one that charges the Studio line. Believe me, I was pissed. I had 500M inspiron since 2004 and immediately bought the dock. It was great because there was a slot on the bottom of the laptop that set right into the Dell dock. It worked wonders for me, but of course they don't do such things anymore. I ended up having to buy a Targus docking station for the Studio because I still had a parallel laser. Once that died and I bought a wireless laser, I was able to just transition to a seven-port hub.

    So no, it won't work.
